Showing Up For Yourself Through Style

As if I haven't harped into you enough about how presenting your best self through style changes everything outwardly, we're now talking about how it changes you inwardly. (is it just me or is that one of the weirdest words? I digress) 

What does showing up for yourself through your style mean? What does it look like?



It happens to look differently for different people. 

For instance, for myself it means getting dressed even when I don’t feel like it, even when it’s 2pm on a Saturday and I have nowhere to be. It means putting on red lipstick to go to the grocery store and making sure my outfit for the next day is chosen by bedtime, even when I’m so exhausted I can’t see straight. 

We all have different routines and unique ways that our personal style affects us, but the outcome is the same. Think of the last time you didn’t quite make it in terms of style. Maybe you didn’t wear an outfit you wanted to because you want to lose weight first, or maybe you opted for the cozy sweatpants whilst on a work from home day. How did you end up feeling in the end? 

I’ll let you in on a secret. 

We’ve got to stop making excuses and start showing up for ourselves through what we wear! Who cares if your body isn’t at ~goals~. What is it like now? Dress for that. Instead of giving into the working from couch mentality, put on the same kind of outfit you’d wear if you were actually going into an office. See, your mindset changes when what you’re wearing on the outside matches.

Superficial as it might sound, it’s actually scientific. 

It’s why I dedicated a style psychology post to the subject, and why I so strongly believe in its importance. Putting little steps into practice, such as throwing touches of your personal style in even when you don't feel like it, can make a huge difference in your confidence and how you're perceived.
