Style Psychology | The Art Of Remaining Stylish When You Don't Feel Like It

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

A question I was asked on IG recently was how I remain stylish even when busy & anxious.

Maybe the fact that I work full time & so I always have to dress work-ready helps, but it still isn't always easy. I've talked before about using fashion to get what you want- you can literally attract good things with your wardrobe! But what about the times when all you feel like attracting is a Domino's & the Grey’s Anatomy episodes where Derek was still alive?

We've all been there.

So what's the secret to remaining true to your personal style?

Since we know that dressing your best boosts your mood & your thoughts, the trick is faking it.

Hear me out.

What outfit makes you feel your best self, like you could take on the world? Is it a leather jacket? Fiery dress? Red lipstick? Think about when you wear that outfit or that piece. Even if it's been an awful day where nothing seems to be going right, that one thing is.

Yes, the illusion that as long as we have our look together then we have our life together is increasingly prevalent with the ever-growing rise of social media, but that's not necessarily what I'm talking about.

You don't need to put on a facade in order to have a fake it til ya make it mentality. It's science; when you put something on you feel confident & your best in, YOU feel better.

Even if it's the last thing on your mind, keep with your outfit making routine and put together new twists on looks, or stick to the tried & true!

I say all this to say that there isn't an exact formula to staying true to your style when you have a down day or you're just too busy to be bothered. The one thing I know is true is the science behind it all, & that is if you feel like you look like a million bucks, you'll start to feel it too.
