Black Turtleneck & Denim Skirt Outfit | Career Style

I had originally planned a video to go along with this, but if you follow me on stories you know I've been sick, & I wanted to go ahead and get this post out because it's SUPER IMPORTANT. I've been doing a lot of research lately on the psychology of style & fashion and I want to start covering some of the topics.

SO, welcome to the style psychology series! We'll be diving into the science of fashion & why we do certain things, how we can use style to our advantage, & all the good stuff.

The reason I wanted to cover using fashion to get what you want as the first topic is because I believe personal style matters. What we wear matters. (I'll be covering why in another post as well)

I'm sure you've heard the terms 'dress for success' & 'dress for the job/ life you want' thrown around before, but they hold some truth. There was a study done where two groups of people were split up wearing white coats. Half of the subjects were told it was a doctor's coat, & the other half were told it was a painter's coat.

The subjects wearing the doctor's coat performed better on a task than the ones wearing the painter's. They were dressed for success, or at least felt like it, which in turn increased productivity.

Using Fashion To Your Advantage
Think about where you're at right now in life. Think about the job you have, your career goals, your current situation & where you want to be.

Does what you're wearing reflect that?

It's important to reflect & shift focus if need be, because what you're wearing affects how people perceive you, & if you're not dressing to get what you want, you're not going to get what you want.

Let me explain.

When you just throw on outfits, not really thinking about the science behind it or if it's how you want to present yourself to the world, you do yourself a disservice

If you're gunning for a promotion at work but come in everyday in jeans & a sloppy, not put together top, you're not telling your boss you want a promotion or that you want to climb the ladder. You're saying 'but I have so much more to offer than what I wear!!' & while YES, that is 100% true, what you wear DOES matter.

It's a tough pill to swallow, but the faster you understand it the faster you can plan accordingly. If you don't look like you care about where you're going, why should anyone else care?

Maybe you're stuck in a a fashion rut. Maybe you haven't been feeling yourself lately & have skipped out of trying to look your best every day. You've lost the ~magic.~

I GET IT. Write down your goals, take inventory of your closet, & really, truly, see if your wardrobe reflects what you're trying to put out there.

If not. it's okay! Start with the basics. Maybe you're not the same person you were a year ago or your goals have changed. So invest in clothes that align with that. More importantly, invest in yourself!
