A few months back I read a quote from Jenny Han on making Lara Jean's style come to life for the To All The Boys film, & something she said really stuck out to me:

"...it’s what she feels pretty in, and for an introverted girl, it’s a way for her to express herself."
Style is perhaps the biggest way in which we express ourselves, & this fact is especially true for introverts.

When I look back on my love of fashion, I think it boils down to me using it as a medium to speak when I couldn't. I've always taken solace in my clothes and picking out what to wear.

While I was too afraid of speaking up or embarrassing myself, my style was always there to say what I wanted to. It's the one thing I've nearly always felt confident in. (obviously now when I think about my glitter flared jeans phase I cringe, but back then I thought I was ~so cool~.)

Remember the previous Style Psych post? The power we have in our clothes means using style to our advantage, & sometimes that means making a statement. Developing & tailoring your personal style is crucial (post coming soon) for this.

What do you want to say with your clothes? Even though I'm more reserved, I like the finer things in life and I feel that comes through in my style. I'll use any excuse to be a little extra, and my casual look is still the taddest dressed up.

It's who I am, & who you are can take you places.

How Introverts Can Use Style As A Secret Weapon

It can be also be a conversation starting tool; anytime I'm complimented on a piece of clothing I'll tell them where I got it, for two reasons. I want to spread the generosity around, AND sometimes a conversation can get started about the particular store.  It's a tiny little trick that I've used so many times because it works!

Being an introvert is not a curse, especially when it comes to fashion. I truly believe that my style wouldn't have developed the way it has had I been a different personality type. Your style can be your secret weapon, your super power, if you let it.

Don't hold back because you're afraid people won't take you seriously or they'll think you're trying too hard or WHATEVER the fear may be.

Figure out what you want to say to the world, & the rest will fall into place.
