OH HEY! It's time for another little monthly roundup/chat/catch up. I cannot TELL you how much I'm ready for March to get here and spring to bloom. Once January hits I am OVER winter and fully prepared for off the shoulder tops and all the pastel colors.

The Spring Book Edit | What You Should Read!

One of my goals for 2018 was to spend less time on social media & more time nose deep in a good old fashioned book. I'm always on the hunt for ones you just can't put down until you're finished-- nothing beats that feeling, am I right? So far I'm only my second book for the year, but I'm DREAMING BIG.

Spring Transition Picks
Spring Transition Picks

It's such a weird time of year for fashion: we still have that last bit of winter left, but every store you go into is screaming for you to buy bikinis & the latest off the shoulder number. It can get a little... confusing, to say the least. BUT there are a ton of pieces that are amazing when it comes to wearing for spring transition.

To absolutely no one's surprise: there is no shortage of blush & floral on this list. Every year since '06, Miranda Priestly's voice comes to me saying "Floral? For spring? Groundbreaking." And every year I JUST DON'T CARE OKAY.

Just like seasons past, you'll be seeing maxi dresses everywhere. Forever jealous of you babes that can rock a maxi without looking like it's eating you. You wear it well. Off the shoulder is in again and I think I like it better than the cold shoulder this year. (notice no CS picks...)

One last thing: MULES MULES MULES. Perfect for every season, in my book. I'm obsessed with these guys. They're such an effortless look but so put together, a look that says 'I'm ready for business.'

Let's go.

The Pink Lipstick Edit

You may have noticed, I have a thing for pink. Not so much the bold, hot pink that once framed my teenage-bedroom walls, (cringe) but the soft, feminine notes of a blush or strawberry tone. & that shows in my lipstick shade choices. Sure, I love a good berry or red, but I feel things truly shine in a good old fashioned, Reese Witherspoon-esque pink.

Over the years I've found a few ride-or-die lippies that stand the test of times, & today I'm sharing some PINKS. SEO says I should be writing A LOT more under each description, but there are only so many ways you can drone on about a single lip product. So without boring you to death, let's dive in:

Pink Lipsticks

This color is such a subtle, pretty tone. It could even be known as the perfect pink: not too bright, not too light, but just so. I think there's a reason for its name; it's light & breezy, just like a summer day. Ooor maybe I'm getting too deep in the similes. THIS ISN'T ENGLISH CLASS. Nevertheless, I'm a fan.

So pale it's nearly a nude, this one is for when you want something even more subdued than summer breeze. It looks especially pretty paired with darker eyeshadow or outfit. CONTRAST.

Aside from the rather cheesy name, this is probably my favorite pink lip I've ever worn. It's an oldie but a goodie. It's a pop of matte pink without being so overpowering you don't know what to do with yourself. It's pretty much universally flattering and, well, chic. Okay, so maybe it lives up to its name. Who knew?

another one.

Policy & Change
Maybe dedicating a full blog post to nearly every tragedy we face isn't the way to keep my positive demeanor, but nothing feels right otherwise. So here we are again.

I'm just so tired. I'm tired of writing these posts. I'm tired of defending basic human rights & policy changes to strangers on social media. I'm tired of grieving for lives lost due to senseless, avoidable violence.

This country loves our guns more than it loves our people, and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

It's not a God-given right to own a firearm. Don't use my God to defend twisting the second amendment for your own gain. I'm tired.

There's so many of us fighting, so many voices struggling to be heard, and yet it feels like we're so alone in the fight sometimes. How did it get that way? It's not okay. Nothing is ever going to change until something changes.

But how will anything ever change when the white house is full of people who think that thoughts & prayers are enough? Don't get me wrong, we should never stop praying. But faith without action is dead, & so we keep losing lives. We keep making status updates expressing heartbreak & outrage. We keep fighting with strangers on the internet. We keep, we keep, we keep.

Here are some ways you can take action for gun policy change right now:

+ Find out who your Congress representative is & call or email them, letting them know why change is important.
+ Donate to Everytown
+ Find events in your area dedicated to stopping gun violence
+ Get educated. Do your research. Keep fighting.

"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

Self Love Practices

Ah, valentine's day. The holiday you either love or loathe. I don't go out of my way to hate on it, but I'm not the biggest fan. I think it's important to show love every single day of the year, but if we're gonna have a holiday for it, I guess one with pretty pink things & all the chocolate you could want isn't the worst way to do it.

It's important, in a way, because it reminds me the value of self-love, the value in doing things because you love them & practicing self care. The benefits of this are ever-important: higher self esteem, better mental clarity, & less stress, to name a few.

There are so many simple ways to practice self love today, or any day of the year: (I'm still the worst at segues WOW. In other words, let's get on with the list)

1// Eat a cupcake. You deserve it.

2// Practice a yoga routine.

3//  Rosé away.

4// Start that new netflix show you've been meaning to watch. (I've seen a couple episodes of black mirror & now I want to binge ALL OF THEM. creepy AF)

5// Make a gratitude list. Write down everything you can think of that you're grateful for. I do this every day in my bullet journal & it keeps things in perspective.

6// Make a vision board & put it somewhere you can see it everyday.

7// Meditate.

8// Wear your most favorite outfit, the one that makes you feel like you're in one of those music videos. Even if it's just to the grocery store.

9// Turn your phone off or on Do Not Disturb for even just TWO HOURS. Read your favorite book. Bake something yummy. Don't sneak a look at instagram.

10// Go exploring in your city.

11// Two words: Red. Lipstick.

12// Light your favorite candle, grab your best bath bomb, & draw yourself the most lush little bath.

Thoughts on valentine's day?

Tea Tree Oil for Hair Growth

It feels like I've been growing out my hair for five years, even though it's been more like five months. In an act of desperation, a couple of months ago I did some research on what the heck could help hair growth, naturally. Obviously there's not an exact science, & there's no magical hair growth pill you can take to BAM have Rapunzel length hair overnight. Wouldn't that be the dream though?

There are a few things you can do to help speed along the process, however, one of them being massaging a few drops of tea tree oil into your hair daily. Why?

Besides it being a skin healer, (I got a horrid sunburn on my face last summer & tea tree was a lifesaver) it promotes hair health & growth. Let's break down the benefits of the oil

Why You Should Be Using Tea Tree Oil

It improves the circulation of blood, allowing to help flush out toxins and stimulates hair follicles, while nourishing the roots & scalp. When toxins are gone and the scalp is moisturized, hair is able to grow better as the pesky things that prevent growth wash away with a good oil rinse.

I've been testing out this little method for about six-eight weeks & slowly but surely, I've noticed some growth. I've definitely noticed my hair feeling stronger and thicker. (although my hair is already wildly thick so tone it down tea tree)

Anywhere from half an hour to an hour before I plan on washing my hair/ getting ready for bed, I pump a few drops (not spon, just love) directly onto my scalp, massaging it in in a circular motion. I do my thing, let it really soak in, & then rinse out. On shampoo nights, I shampoo immediately after rinsing for more stimulation. EASY.

Of course, as #1 as oil is in my routine right now, there are other musts to do in order for some growth to happen. Let's break those down:

+ Like oil, getting regular trims won't make hair grow faster, but it sure doesn't slow down the process either. Six-eight week trims should be good if you're trying to grow things out, & to save a little $$ I've recently taken it upon myself to trim my own locks.. YIKES. I just snip a bit off the ends, because that's really all it takes. (of course, if you're totally against self snipping, go see a professional BY ALL MEANS)

+ Wash your hair in lukewarm water at the warmest. The hotter the water, the harsher it is on the hair, potentially causing breakage.

+ Use the least amount of heat possible, & if you must use it, USE PROTECTION!

+ Vitamins, vitamins, vitamins! Anything with fish oil, zinc, bitoin, and vitamins B & C are your best bet!

If anything, adding tea tree oil to your regular hair care routine is a healthy, natural way to cleanse toxins, promote growth, & add a little thickness to things.

Why It's Okay To Not Know What You're Doing

Hey, how was your week? I’ve been in mourning of a Pearson so excuse the mess. Anyway, enough on fictional character deaths. Let’s talk about the elephant in every twenty-something’s room- not knowing what the hell to do with tomorrow, much less YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.

I’m nearly four years into my twenties & I’ve learned A LOT so far, one thing being that nobody really knows what they’re doing. We’re all just faking it. I still listen to what kids say they wanna be when they grow up because I’m still brainstorming. (Not really but LOL KINDA REALLY)

Spring Culotte Outfit
It's Okay To Not Know What You're Doing

But, something else I’ve learned? It’s okay. It’s okay because your twenties are all about figuring out what you like. That goes for the types of people you like, the hobbies, the jobs, the list goes on.

It’s super easy to get into a OMG MY LIFE IS GOING NOWHERE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING panic, but the truth is, you are going somewhere. Once you stop looking at everyone else’s highlights & comparing them to yours, once you focus on your own, it feels like freedom. Even if you have just one goal, focus on that & the rest will be fine.

Instead of worrying so much about if our life is going the way we planned it, we should be worried about living it right. Making the moves up as I go is the motto, am I right?

Is Fashion Nova Worth It?

For months social media/ blogosphere has been abuzz with talks about Fashion Nova-- an online clothing site akin to asos, but OMG SO GREAT BECAUSE KYLIE JENNER! Instagram models!

I honestly didn't know too much about it, but after hearing so much raving I decided to give it a go.

I only ordered three things, & only one out of the three actually fit. (it didn't fit well mind you, I just made it work) Something you should KNOW if you're going to order: SIZE UP. At least one size, I would actually go with two. It's insane that sizing isn't the same all across the board, but what can ya do?

It should also be noted that it's hard to know what your body will look like in an item, because every model is so grossly photoshopped and it's just not representative.

The Ahead Of Yourself bodysuit (in small) is the only piece that fit, & I'm glad it did because bodysuits are final sale. (even though it doesn't say it on the product page) I love a good stripe & it's a really good suit.

Off Daze Midi Dress in XS was WAY TOO SMALL. Buttons were a poppin, skin was a showin,.. it was not cute, & I was so disappointed because i fell in love. I definitely want to get this in a bigger size, most likely a medium.

Total Betty Plaid Dress in S-- I could get away with this in a medium as it was just a tad too tight in all the wrong places. But again, SO CUTE, just too small.

Initially it took the order about four days to even process before it shipped out, which is cutting it close, but I let it slide because once it shipped it only took a couple of days to get to me.

I wanted to like FN because of all the good things I've heard, but I think they just got lucky. (or sponsored, it is what it is) But their return policy is less than stellar & I'm not a fan of picking things that *might* fit & then if I have to return them being stuck with store credit.

THE CLOTHES ARE SUPER CUTE, but to me, it's not worth it. I would rather spend money on a place that I know & trust the sizing, and am friendly with the return policy.

For now, I'll leave FN to the (instagram) professionals.

February Plan With Me
February Plan With Me

I, for one, LOVE plan with me's. Blog posts, videos, give me all of it. It makes me feel like I can get that organized, if only for a moment. That's the thing I love about bullet journaling; it helps my organization SO MUCH and I've found that having everything written out instead of just floating around in my brain helps out my anxiety some.

SO, february planning.

February Plan With Me

I have spreads that are a given for each month, like my weekly spread, content calendar, yoga tracker, etc. This month I also added a couple new spreads; one for stevie, to track her walks & grooming, & one for meal planning.

I'm hoping it will motivate me to actually make more things and plan meals out, rather than ordering out or just rummaging in the fridge hoping something appears.

I got the sticky notes idea from pinterest; instead of having to do a new meal spread every week, you can just use pencil or put new sticky notes on. Who doesn't like to keep it simple?

For the most part my journal stays very minimalist, as I don't have the time or creative genes to make it super pretty & detailed. But it works for me and I like finding new little things to add!

Thursday, February 1, 2018

Oh hey, hi! Long time no see! It's been a MONTH, yes? January may just have 31 days, but every year it feels like 311. HOO. This one was particularly busy, as I've gone a little off the rails & decided I just couldn't get away from school. You'll see plenty of the (mis?) adventures over on my insta stories, since I've completely abandoned the old snapchat for them.

& so is life.

I'm almost certain I've highlighted these recently, but it's only because I just can't get enough. I'd never actually owned a pair of mules before & these babes are comfortable, cute, & go with literally everything. My best friend calls them my old lady shoes, & I wear that title proudly, thank you. (& here's a little alternative for all you non-kid size wearin babes)

2// The Greatest Showman.
I actually saw a new movie!  I don't get out to the movies often & it's a shame because I really enjoy it, aside from the $10 popcorn prices. anyway, my mom & I decided to see the greatest showman after hearing rave reviews from literally everyone, & I don't regret a second of it! The costumes. The music. The cinematography. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

3// Yoga, consistently.
My yoga journey has been nothing short of a ride, & for the past few months I've made a commitment of practicing at least five times a week, and for the most part I've stuck to it. The holidays were a little hairy, but January is the month of getting back on track and that's what I've done. My favorite virtual yoga teacher Adriene does a 30 day practice at the beginning of each year, & I've been loving this year's. Practices like this help keep you in check with a consistent flow. It can be extremely challenging, but worth it!
