Plaid & Suede Skirt OutfitSweater & Tights
{same skirt, different day}

Hey hi, happy Wednesday! Another month, another look back on all the things.

The official start of the holiday season, November is always a pretty busy month, yes? Although it was a quick break, I didn't post the Friday after thanksgiving (because who has the time to read blogs then anyway?) & it felt.. refreshing. It's always good to take a break every now & then.

1// Reputation was released & I've been alternating between that & christmas music ALL MONTH LONG.

2// I've been trying to get through the lovely bones for MONTHS (life gets ya sometimes) because my friend recommended it to me, but I still haven't made it through. Not that it's not good, it is. It's just.. maybe a little slower paced than I'm used to? I'm not sure. In any case, for now I've opted for a bit of a lighter read, Jenny Han's latest. I've just started but it's good so far-- I really like the TATBILB series. Young Adult is my kryptonite, sue me.

Always And Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

3// Taking time to just take a bit of a breather & be with family has been so refreshing! I had family come in I hadn't seen in ages & it was nice to have a bit of slower pace. I think the hustle & bustle of the holidays can make it easy to forget what it's all about.

Easy Chai Sugar Cookies

Comin at you the day before thanksgiving with a easy sugary, cinnamon sweet recipe because THAT’S THE CONTENT YOU SIGNED UP FOR. Or maybe not, but here it is anyway.

& because I’m a straight to the point kinda gal, let’s just get right into it. I baked taylor swift’s variation on this recipe, (because obviously) in which she adds in a bag of chai tea leaves & an icing topping.

This recipe will make one dozen 4-inch cookies or two dozen 2-inch.

1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus additional for sugaring tops

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 bag of chai tea

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Line baking sheet with parchment paper or grease generously with butter or cooking spray.

Using a mixer, beat the butter in a large bowl on medium speed for about 1 minute. Add the vegetable oil. It may not fully incorporate with the butter. DON'T WORRY. That's okay.

Add the granulated sugar, powdered sugar, egg and vanilla, beating on medium speed until each ingredient is completely incorporated. *THIS IS WHEN WE'RE GONNA ADD IN THE CHAI TEA. So, go ahead & cut open a packet & pour the leaves all in there. Aaaand proceed.

Stir in the flour, baking soda and salt all at once using a wooden spoon or the mixer set on low.

The dough will be soft.

I froze the dough for 15 minutes so they were easier to handle.

I literally dolloped a spoonful of dough for each cookie- that simple. THEN press the dough evenly with your palm, and once they're all on the sheet you can generously sprinkle sugar on top of the cookie dough.

Bake for 12 to 14 minutes for larger cookies or 8 to 10 minutes for smaller cookies-- mine were golden at about 14.

Once that's done is when you're gonna wanna bake the icing, which is just a mixture of 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 t-spoon of nutmeg & cinnamon, & three tablespoon of milk or eggnog. (I went ahead & used milk)

& BAM. You're gonna rock thanksgiving desserts. You're welcome.

Sweater & Suede | Thanksgiving Outfit

Sweater & Suede | Thanksgiving Outfit

The Thanksgiving outfit always feels like a conundrum. Do you wear a dress? Leggings-- or to quote joey tribbiani-- 'thanksgiving pants,' A scarf?? OMG I DON'T KNOW.

BUT, I do think there's something to be said about a simple sweater + skirt look that's perfectly autumnal, and gives a little eating room. The key to thanksgiving looks is comfort, and I think this gives off that vibe well.

Some booties are my favorite way to top off this look, and BAM. Time to eat.

Things You Need Right Now: Coffee Is Magical Mug

Just in time for ALL THE SALES, I've rounded up five of the things I'm loving most lately, and I think you'll love them too.

So, in the words of the very wise tom haverford, treat yo self.

1// Coffee Is Magical Mug, $4
This mug is FOUR DOLLARS, y'all. Four. It's from target and if 'coffee is magical' isn't your vibe, (even though it's true) don't worry because they've got lots more to choose from

2// the sun & her flowers, $17
I posted about this on my instagram a week or so ago because I love it so. There's something about rupi's words that dig deep into your soul and get ya, ya know?

3// reputation album, $20

4// Fairy Lights, $6
I'm a sucker for all the fairy lights, especially around wintertime. It really makes a space feel cosy and warm, and you don't even have to spend more than $10 to make it happen!

5// Loose Knit Sweater, $20
I LOVE H&M SWEATERS. Well, any sweaters really, I'm not picky in the slightest. But I recently picked up one from h&m and the quality is even better than I expected.

Burn It Down

At this point it’s no longer surprising when news breaks on a new Hollywood person that has been accused of sexual misconduct, which is unfortunate in of itself. However, when I heard that the latest was mark schwahn, the creator of one tree hill, it hit me a little harder.

I’m pretty vocal about my love of teen dramas, including OTH. I grew up with it. It's one of those shows that touched an entire generation of people, and it's important to those people. It's a safe place. So to know that it was the opposite of a safe place for the women who worked on the show for so many years, to hear they were abused and talked down to and mistreated, is disheartening. No longer surprising, but it still hurts.

How long will we tolerate this? How many more men will we discover are abusers in the worst way? Abuse of power, abuse of it all. There's probably not even a point to this post other than to express how much I don't understand. The only good thing to come out all of it, maybe, is that there is power in numbers and women feel safer telling their stories. They know they're not alone. & I for one. am incredibly overwhelmed and inspired by the strength of each and every one of them.

You are the reason we fight.

Taylor Swift's Reputation

It's been three long years since I've been able to talk about a new taylor swift album, and in true WDAC fashion, it's a must. It was known in the beginning that this album would be a bit of a departure from her precious works, and that rang true with the release of LWYMMD. Jack Antanoff & Max Martin were a driving force on this album, as they were for 1989. (that bad boy pop sensation of a record) Reputation is just as much as a pop record, but with a darker twist, almost a taylor/ lorde hybrid.

SO let's go down the tracklist:

1// Ready For It
This one was a pre-release and honestly a pretty genius way of opening the record, with the ending lines 'Let the games begin / Are you ready for it?'

2// End Game
The Future/ Ed Sheeran collab I didn't know I needed, this track is the most R&B of the record, reminiscent of an early 2000s number. The chorus is arguably the most catchy part

3// I Did Something Bad
Two words: GOES HARD. I think I nearly broke my back trying to dance during the first listen. The lyrics are incredibly cohesive with the POV she tries to convey throughout much of the album: the POV of the victim, the manipulator. (AKA her reputation.. get it yet?)

4// Don't Blame Me
I don't like playing favorites but this is no doubt up in the top three. The beat is INCREDIBLE, very syntho and the lyrics are her signature haunting ones.

5// Delicate
Imogen Heap vibes on this track, especially in the opening notes. This is a different kind of love song than we're used to with Swift, but that's what makes it so haunting and pretty. 'Is it too soon to do this yet / cause I know that it's delicate.'

When this track was first released, it was my favorite because I didn't have anything to compare it to. (although it took me a bit to get used to) While it's still genius lyrically, it doesn't necessarily compare to the others.

 7// So It Goes
Maybe the most different track of the album, So It Goes is a love song of sorts, with lines such as 'all our pieces fall right into place , get caught up in a moment , lipstick on your face / So it goes… I'm yours to keep / And I'm yours to lose'

8// Gorgeous
I don't even have anything to say on this one other than STILL OBSESSED.

9// Getaway Car
Such a lyrically cohesive song. About a relationship gone wrong, it's a catchy little track that reminds me of Style somehow, even though they're not necessarily related. As she says, 'nothing good starts in a getaway car.'

10// King Of My Heart
From what I've seen, this is the most underrated track on the record, about how sometimes a love comes when you're perfectly fine on your own, and they end up being the one you were waiting for.

11/ Dancing With Our Hands Tied
This reminds me of Wildest Dreams in that it's about a love that you basically know will end, but you hold onto it as much as you can anyway. 'You said there was nothing in the world that could stop it / I had a bad feeling'

12// Dress
A more scandalous song (as taylor songs go at least) about a secret love, and my favorite thing about it is her vocals on the chorus. They're almost haunting. (wow, how many times can I use that word)

13// This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things
I like the placement of this song, because as the album progresses she gets happier and then chiller and then BAM, don't forget. I may have also nearly broken my back dancing to this one. She said she purposefully made the chorus sound like a bunch of schoolchildren because that's what she felt like she was dealing with, and ain't that a mad.

14// Call It What You Want
Hands down my favorite of the pre-releases, CIWYW is a love song if I ever heard one, and there's a hint of self empowerment somewhere in there. 'All the liars are calling me one / Nobody's heard from me for months / I'm doin' better than I ever was '

15// New Year's Day
Taylor always picks the perfect tracks to close out a record, and this time is no different. With NYD we get the ballad she's so great at making, and with this she makes it clear that the old Taylor isn't as dead as she wanted us to think.

1// I Did Something Bad
2// Don't Blame Me
3// Delicate
4// Call It What You Want
5// New Year's Day
6// Gorgeous
8// Ready For It
9// Getaway Car
10// Dress
11// End Game
12// Dancing With Our Hands Tied
13// So It Goes
14// King Of My Heart

(please note, this is not an accurate ranking. It was more like sophie's choice)

Have you heard the album? TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS!

The End Of Print Publications And The Future Of Blogging & Journalism

When Hannah wrote an article on the end of glamour's uk print publication, (luckily it's still running in the us... for now) that was the first I'd heard of the news, but it wasn't nearly as surprising as it would have been even five years ago. And then, a few days ago, news broke from conde nast that they would be discontinuing the teen vogue print, reducing it to a strictly online publication. I'm pretty certain it won't be the last announcement we'll hear in the coming years or even months, either.

The way we consume media has changed drastically with the rise of social media and the internet as a whole. Flashback to 2007, the iphone had only just arrived, facebook was just extending past users with a college email account, and print publication was arguably at its peak. My middle school best friend & I pored over her older sister's copies of cosmogirl, teen people, and yes, teen vogue. That's how we kept up with the hottest celebrities & world news. (obviously my thirteen year old brain cared 100% more about the celebs)

Forward to present day, just one decade later, and that world seems like an entire lifetime ago.

We now keep up with current events through the likes of our news app and twitter, digesting hundreds of little snippets throughout the day. Micro media, it could be called. As a whole, we no longer turn to magazines as our source for the latest news & inspiration, no matter how much ya love a good flip-through. That's all it is, it seems. Then we go on with our day, back to digesting more snippets.

Obviously brands have to keep up with trends and what their consumers want. If not, the brand will die, plain and simple. So I have to give glamour & TV a pat on the back, as it seems they are catering to their market.

So, what does this all mean for blogging and journalism as a whole? Will we transition to total microblogging & media? Sometimes it seems that way, and as we make our way into 2018, (say WHAT??) the shift can either keep going in the direction it’s been going, or scale back a bit. In a way, it’s up to us. Don’t get me wrong, I love all that media has turned into. The community of blogging & social media can be an amazing thing (the good side of it, at least) and I like seeing snippets of people’s lives.

But it’s also nice to have print publications, a piece of art in your fingertips. The work that goes into a newspaper article or magazine is insane. What will happen if that goes away completely? I’m not all that sure that it will; people have said for years that libraries will die & here they still are; albeit a little slow.

But the world is changing and technology has to keep up.

Personally, I think microblogging will become even more popular, as it’s a form of those snapshots of information & updates. We will continue to get our news via social media and instead of print being our go-to, it will become our last resort, so to speak. But it will still be there, because journalism is evergreen, no matter the form it's written.

As for the fashion magazines, I'd like to say they'll stay, but as instagram style stars become the new Glamour, it's hard to tell. Either way, we are in an era of uncharted territory, and if we don't hop on board, we'll simply be left behind, reminiscing about times no longer relevant.

Chanel Les Beiges

It's been a MINUTE since I've done a proper product review and I wanted to go back to the basics a bit, old school if you will.

The first time I tried Chanel's Les Beiges foundation was for my cousin's wedding, some two years ago. The bridal party all went to get our makeup done at the mall (felt kinda bougie, highly recommend) and that was the foundation the girl used on me. I fell IN LOVE & bought myself some that same day.

That particular one was called 'all in one' & it was GLORIOUS. It literally lasted me until a few weeks ago. Maybe that's because I didn't wear it every day, but still. It lasts a LONG time.

But as it turns out, somewhere in the past two years, they discontinued the all in one, possibly because it was so similar to the regular les beiges, AKA the one featured in this post....

The range comes in fourteen shades, already a boost above the many less-than-inclusive foundations. With a creamy formula that is easy to apply with your fingertips (& blend with a beauty blender!) the application is smooth & dang near flawless. Coverage is medium but buildable. I normally only go in with two or three pumps & it's enough for my comfort.

Let's talk about wear-- I always set my foundation with a powder, but even with that sometimes certain foundations just don't hold. This is not one of them, however. At the end of the day I can still tell it's on, but it doesn't feel heavy, if that makes sense. You know it's there, but you don't know. It's one of those really wearable products & I love that.

I've tried SO MANY foundations throughout my makeup wearing days-- pretty much a decade now-- and I can honestly say that this is my #1 pick. I'm such a drugstore advocate and most times those products really work just as well as high end, but when it comes to foundation, if you want something that truly lasts, feels light but wearable, and good coverage, you've gotta splurge a bit.

My budget kind of hates it, but it's worth it!

How To Find Style Inspiration

Finding style inspiration is a key part of finding your own personal style and finding out what you like & dislike. But how do you find that inspiration?

Once you’ve found your vibe, it gets pretty simple. In order to find that vibe though, you should look at those who inspire you, both in real life and in media. Whose style do you look at and say ‘that’s my style’? Start there & then:

Take Action
The last post was all about how to make an easy inspiration board, and if wanted it can be used as a style board, where your favorite looks are cut out and put together in one place for you to see, a real life pinterest board. That way, when you're running low on inspiration, you can look back on it & have a fresh perspective.

Back To The Basics
I talk a lot about taking inventory of your closet, and it's because it WORKS. When trying to find some inspiration, the first obvious place to look is gonna be your closet. What pieces give you the warm and fuzzies when you look at & wear them? Separate them from the pack & see if there's a pattern. That, my dears, is the birth of your style. Get inspired simply by wearing one of your favorite outfits. EASY PEASY.

Take It To The Streets
Besides social media, the biggest way I find inspiration is simply by looking around me. Street style is EVERYWHERE, & people are killing it. I'll find outfits in the grocery store, the coffee shop, church... pretty much anywhere you can think of. I'll make a mental note of how I can turn that look into my own and it oftentimes strikes a match of creativity!

How To Make An Inspiration Board

When I moved into the new place, I bought a little bulletin board from target, and I had been trying to figure out what to do with it. I had a few Polaroids & random things hanging from it, and then I decided what better thing to do than make a little inspiration board?

There are two main ways you can go about making this, the first being that you can literally just print/ cut out whatever you want. Magazine cut outs, pinterest things, WHATEVER YOU WANT.

It's your life, pick out things that inspire you, things you love, or that generally give you a warm & fuzzy feeling when you look at them. & then tape or pin them to your board & you're GOOD TO GO.

But if you wanna get a bit fancy, then you can handwrite it out. (or watercolor or do calligraphy or whatever your talent level allows for. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the plain handwriting stage) I got plain paper from hobby lobby and cut each page I wanted in half, for more of a poster feel. I cut some even smaller, depending on what was going on there.

I scoured my pinterest boards for things I wanted on there, and then I went for it, using a simple calligraphy marker and colored pencils, both things I already had. (but can be found for cheap) On a couple of them it took a couple tries, but WE GOT IT!

I've only added a few quotes for now, but will be doing more, don't worry.

You'll want to keep your inspo board somewhere you see it all the time. Mine is by my desk as a motivator.

Now that you know the super easy way to get inspired, GO DO IT!

Forever 21 Sweater Dress
Fall Outfit | Sweater Dress

I was recently browsing the f21 website, avoiding some sort of responsibility I’m sure, when I came across it. The perfect sweater dress, in the perfect color.

It was love at first sight.

How rare is it to find a piece so perfect you might die without it? (ok kae, cut the dramatics) But I did consider it an autumn essential I needed in my wardrobe, & I'm not disappointed! The fabric is insanely soft and cosy.

It’s so simple & can be worn on its own or with leggings or tights. (my preference)

If you need me you can find me LIVING in this for the rest of the season....
