April Favorites

Friday, April 29, 2016

April means spring is in full bloom and my favorite things become brighter. Fresher. Pinker.

Let's get to it, shall we?

On the beauty front we have this Maybelline lipstick (in pink & chic) that I've been OBSESSING over. It's matte and a lovely pink shade that's not too bright. Also, the staying power on this is AMAZING! Hours go by before I need to reapply. (am I Dr. Seuss?)

As mentioned here, this month I tried out Sonia Kashuk's chic luminosity highlighter stick. While it doesn't 100% cover my under eye circles (nothing really does, go genes!) it earns a favorites spot because it definitely helps brighten the face & leaves a hint of dewy glow.

Okay, so my candle problem might be getting out of hand. (like, a lot) I can't help it. I'm a blogger, I like my candles okay? And Sweet Sangria smells like summer. And sangria. (I'm not good at describing scents but trust me, you'll love it)

Have I talked in depth about the Stevies brand? Steve Madden's daughter (who's like eight, it's fine) has her own line of shoes. Big deal, you think. But since I'm stuck in kid-size land, I'll take any opportunity to get adultish-looking shoes. My latest find? These fun crochet sneakers (here's a normal size look-a-like) are comfy & casual & I love pairing them with a t-shirt dress.....

Which leads me to my last couple of picks..... dresses! I talked about my love of stripes in this post & it's going strong. This month I picked up a Mossimo striped t-shirt dress and it is SO SOFT. SO STRIPE-Y. I like belting it or tying a denim shirt over it for more of a defined waistline.

So I've only worn this off-the-shoulder dress like, once so far. Sue me. The color is perfect & the crochet adds a little something, no? I love it.

SO. Your turn! Tell me your little loves this month. Anything I should try?

Mother's Day Ideas

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Mother's Day is just around the corner (ugh I sound like a greeting card commercial) so I've curated a few picks for any mom/ lady in your life!

Personally, I like giving her a few little things or trinkets or a nice piece of jewelry that can also be worn for every day. A candle is never a wrong answer either!

What would you add to the list?

Chambray Twirl

Monday, April 25, 2016

Chambray is kind of a fun material, am I right, ladies? (You know it's gonna be a good post when I start it off with am I right ladies)

I love that it's a more lightweight alternative to denim, perfect for warmer days. The high neck halter cut on this Mossimo top gives lots of shoulder attention! Pairing it with an a-line striped skirt like this one adds some chicness. (& some twirl!)

I wore a variation of this look to a wedding on Saturday and it felt light & oh-so-pretty!

For a more casual look, I like these high waisted shorts.

Tell me how you'd wear this look!

top | Mossimo (I cannot find it ANYWHERE online but
it should still be in Target stores! Similar here & here)
skirt | f21
bag | Kate Spade
sunglasses | Target
necklace | LC Lauren Conrad
bracelet | Fracesca's

BRIGHTEN UP | Chic Luminosity

Friday, April 22, 2016

A couple days ago I raved on my snapchat for a hot sec about Sonia Kashuk's highlighter stick. The whole highlighting concept is still semi-new to me, and it never really occurred to me to try it under my eyes.

BUT it was getting to the point where just concealer under there wasn't doing the trick, and I needed something a little more to brighten things up. So, cut to me standing in the middle of the makeup aisle at Target, frantically researching & coming to a decision: Sonia it was. (I picked up Sparkling Sands)

I like using powder highlight for my cheeks, but for under my eyes I was thinking something more solid, which is why I chose a stick. The formula just glides on & it's got a shimmer to it that really glows. What I've been doing is putting on my concealer first (in 10 fair) & then BEFORE blending I roll the highlight on in the same place (don't forget the V shape) and then I blend.

I've found that blending the concealer & highlighter at once makes everything look more... put together? After that I go in with a powder to set & voila! I just got the glow powder like two days ago and my first impression? It glows, alright.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever be able to completely rid my dark circles; they seem to be genetic. They're always there, just waiting in the wings... waiting for that perfect moment to strike. Hopefully I've found a formula to combat them at least a little better!

What about y'all? Do you highlight under your eyes? Tell me your glow tricks!

73 Questions

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

{sunglasses | similar dress & shoes}

If you haven't noticed the pattern already, when Taylor Swift does something there's a pretty good chance it's going to end up on here. It's just life, man.

Anyway, all the cover stars of Vogue get asked 73 questions to go with their cover, & Taylor is the latest. (She is SO CUTE I can't) I love learning things about other people which is why things like 73 Questions and US Weekly's 25 Things You Don't Know About Me are so interesting to me, and I was so excited when Vogue asked me I decided to do my own version!

So here are all 73 (although Cosmo has pointed out they only asked 70!? WHAT IS THE TRUTH Vogue) questions, answered by me. Some of them have to do with her career, so I've edited a few of those a bit since I personally have zero grammys. (one more childhood dream down the drain)

1//  What's keeping you busy these days?
Binge watching.

2//  What's the most exciting thing in life right now?
Hmm... I'm almost done with the semester!

3//  What are you completely bored of in life right now?
Kylie Jenner's lip kits

4// What is something that recently moved you?
I've talked about this recently, but that Amazon commercial with the dog. Why? How can so many feelings happen in thirty seconds?

5// How many guitars do you own?
I actually have one! But I can't play it. I tried to teach myself like six years ago... it wasn't all that pretty.

6// What's the first blog post you ever wrote?
I had written a few on blogs that are long gone, but my very first on this one is on Lauren Conrad. Still love her!

7// What's the first thing you do when you get an idea for a post?
I'll save it to the notes in my phone, or if I'm at my computer already I'll just type up a working title and draft it.

8// What's your blog writing process?
I wish it was super organized and streamlined, but I kinda just go. Some posts need more research, so I'll do that if necessary. I usually take photos beforehand and sometimes I'll write the post in blocks and put it all together.

9// What type of posts take you the least amount of time to write?
Probably outfit ones, because the photos tell half the story with those.

10// Which ones take you the longest?
Ones that require a little extra focus; sometimes I just can't get in the writing mindset!

11// Is this the room where you write?
Yeah, I usually write in my room, but other places too. It's kind of scattered.

12// Who is your favorite teacher?
I had a few in high school but there was one senior year, she was my government and psych teacher and her name was Mrs. Russell. I haven't forgotten the things she taught!

13// If you could teach one subject in school, what would it be?
English! For awhile I actually thought about pursuing an English degree so I could teach it.

14// What's your favorite beverage?

15// What's your favorite cocktail?
Margaritas are never a wrong answer.

16// What's your favorite food?
Pizza has been my answer to this question since I was like six. It will probably never change. To add on to that, I could also live on mac & cheese. Great adulting, am I right? Oh wait. You're supposed to be asking the questions.

17// What would you order at a drive-thru?
A cheeseburger, always.

18// What was the best birthday cake you'd ever had?
Any cake with buttercream frosting.

19// What was the last thing you baked?
I honestly don't remember. Probably cookies? (I'm such a baker, obviously)

20// What one thing do you need to have in your fridge at any given time?

21// What's one thing you still have from your childhood?
All my journals that I used to write about my crushes in, which for the longest time included Jesse McCartney. Oh, young love.

22// What's your favorite TV show of all time?
I can't do this, I really, really can't. It's split even in thirds with Friends, Gilmore Girls, & Boy Meets World.

23// Favorite TV show that currently on the air?
Grey's & Pretty Little Liars. It's funny, as much as I say I hate PLL, it's still a favorite. Free me.

24// What is your favorite movie?

25// What was a movie that made you cry your eyes out?
SO many movies make me cry! But I'll say the first one that opened the floodgates was A Walk to Remember. It was all downhill from there.

26// Why do you think people follow you on Instagram?
Sometimes I pose with coffee.

27// Have you ever googled yourself?
I have!

28// What do you think when you google yourself?
I like that I'm not famous.

29// If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Healing people. Hey, Taylor & I have the same answer!

30// If you weren't a blogger, what would you be doing?
Being Reese Witherspoon.

31// Can you show me a really cool or bizarre talent?
Well I can't really show you anything, but that's alright because the coolest talent I've got is my sarcasm. That's totally a talent.

32// What's something you can't do?
I can't draw, THANKS MOM. (she can't draw either) (sorry I'm calling you out, mom)

33// What's the best compliment you've ever received?
That I'm kind.

34// What's the best gift you've ever received?
My childhood dog. More recently? My record player two Christmases ago.

35// What's one habit you wish you could break?
Looking at my phone in bed.

36// Do you have any nicknames?
Yeah, Kae or KK

37// What surprises you the most about people?
I'm pleasantly surprised by genuine people.

38// What makes you laugh no matter what?
My dog is ridiculous and I wish my phone could be recording her like, every second.

39//  What does creativity mean to you?
Creativity means having that spark and passion for something and turning it into something beautiful.

40// I found out that Nicole Kidman swam with sharks. What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?
Riding Judge Roy Scream a few years ago at Six Flags.......

41// What's your favorite lyrics of all time?
WOW I have so many, but a line that always sticks out to me is "You call me up again just to break me like a promise/ So casually cruel in the name of being honest" from All Too Well.

42// What's one blog post you wish you had written?
Like all of them that Taylor writes.

43// What's a favorite memory from the last five years?
Meeting some of my best friends.

44// Is taking outfit photos harder than it looks?
So much harder. Especially when you're your own photographer! There are only so many ways you can hide your camera clicker.

45// What's one accomplishment you're most proud of?
Going back to school. It seems like a little thing, but it was big for me.

46// What's something you've always wanted to try but you are too scared to do?
You can't really "try" tattoos, but I've always wanted a tiny one but I'm such a pain wimp.

47// What's your spirit animal?
An elephant. I don't know why, I just feel like we get each other.

48// If you could get on a plane right now and go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Paris. I need to be in Paris.

49// Any advice for someone who wants to become a blogger?
Register a domain name asap. Research photography. WRITE!

50// Any pre-blogging rituals?
I drink coffee.

51// What's the most difficult thing write to about and why?
The really personal posts, not because I'm afraid of writing them, but it's just kind of daunting. But I'm always proud of the end result.

52// How many cats are in this room?
None, but there is a dog on a pillow.

53// If you were a dog, would you get along with your dog?
Probably, because we're both small and feisty when we don't get our way. (ha)

54// What's your favorite dog breed?
Chihuahuas and jack russells obviously....  pugs are also adorable.

55// What's the coolest thing in this room?
I could sound pretentious and say my records but my dog is in here so.... Stevie is the coolest thing in the room.

56// If you could raid one woman's closet, who would it be?
How many times can I mention Taylor Swift today? Taylor Swift.

57// What's your favorite fashion trend of all time?

58// Besides your phone and wallet, what's a couple must have items?
Lipstick is essential always.

59// Can you tell me what you'll be wearing tomorrow?
I have no idea. Let me look at the weather and get back to you.

60// What did you want to do with your life at age 5?
I wanted to be a lot of things at that age, but I think a veterinarian was at the top of the list. Cut to a couple years later when I realized what putting animals down meant......

61// What do you wish you knew at 19?
That was only (almost) three years ago wow. Um I think I'd tell myself that it's okay to not know who you are. You'll find that girl eventually.

62// What won't you be doing in ten years?
I hope I won't still be living with my parents.... not that I don't love it!

63// What do you think is the most important life lesson for someone to learn?
People change people. Would you judge me if I told you that was from Girl Meets World?

64// What can you say in another language?
I can say por favor........

65// What do you love most about the town where you grew up in?
I like its home-y feel.

Starting this blog.

67// Most spontaneous thing you've ever done?
Starting this blog.

68// What's one goal you are determined to achieve in your lifetime?
I am going to New York Fashion Week one day.

69// What is your favorite scented candle?
It changes, but right now I love this one called Sweet Sangria.

HOW DID I GET ONLY 69 QUESTIONS?? Math is weird.

These questions were fun to answer & now it's your turn to answer some of them! Tell me all the things.

Mood Board Vol. 6 | Soft

Monday, April 18, 2016

{via, via, via, via, via, via}

Seeing Shelby's lovely mood boards gave me an idea to go into a bit more depth with mine. (thanks for the inspo, Shelby!)

SO. What have I been listening to lately? My spring playlist, The 1975's newest album, (I'm not gonna write the title because it's Fall Out Boy-length), & Chaos and the Calm by James Bay. (I need to get both of those albums on vinyl asap)

Watching: Grey's. All the time. I somehow survived that death & I'm on this season now! (thanks hulu's free trail) so I think once I'm all caught up I'm FINALLY gonna start Fuller House.

Every year when Coachella rolls around I have to fight the FOMO (I can't believe I just used that in a sentence) but I feel like these last few years it's become less and less about the music & more about the outfits? Don't get me wrong, I love the outfits. (minus the inevitable appropriation that happens, but I digress) But it's a MUSIC FESTIVAL. Am I alone in this thought?

On another note, Taylor Swift's platinum hair is something I didn't know I needed until we had it. What do you think about it?

Baby Blue x Crochet

Friday, April 15, 2016

One of my favorite trends this season is a good off-the-shoulder look.

It's fun & flirty but still a little bit chic. With this crochet accent, you don't even need too many accessories to put everything together. Some pearl studs & some bright lipstick should do the trick.

I looove this dress. It's light & airy & perfect for parties or barbecues or a day out! The color doesn't hurt either. The sad part? It seems to be missing from Francesca's website. (yikes I know) LUCKILY I've linked some similar ones, & if you happen to stumble upon the exact dress let me know!

On another note, can we talk about how that's such a blogger's nightmare? I'M SO SORRY I'VE LET DOWN THE MASSES.

Anyway...... talk to me about the off-the-shoulder look. Love it? Hate it? I personally love the way it dusts the shoulders perfectly.

Recent Inspos

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Oh hi hey!

Today I thought I'd do a little round up of some of my recent inspirations.....

1// I've always had a bit of a thing for stripes, although some are a little difficult to work with as a petite. Luckily I have my trusty Banana Republic t-shirt dress (that I actually got from Plato's Closet like two years ago, but here's a similar one, plus this Mossimo one I just got) that's pretty much universally flattering. There's just something about a good striped piece that makes you feel a little more put-together, no?

2// Blue nails are such a gem. My shades of blue have been growing by the minute and I'm loving softer, baby blues like this one and my newest addition, Bikini So Teeny

3// Spring/ summer + pink lips go together like margaritas + chips & salsa. What is it about a good bright lip that can make it look like you've got your life together, even if you just spent a good five minutes crying over an Amazon Japan commercial? (guilty) My most recent love is so simply called pink n chic.

4// My love for warm, vanilla-y perfumes runs deep & when I'm in need of a little pick-me-up I can always roll on some Eau So Sexy. It reminds me a little bit of my favorite of the Taylor S. perfumes & it's wonderful.

OKAY your turn. What have been your latest inspirations? Tell me tell me!

Find Your Thing

Monday, April 11, 2016

{shirt | necklace}

Crafting is one thing I can't do. I can write all the blog posts, make a mean pot of mac & cheese, but re-create something from pinterest- or even worse, actually make things to sell? Yikes. So I let the ones who can do their thing. (and try to not be jealous about it)

Whether you're an artist or a writer/blogger or a small business owner, all of the above or something else entirely, we're all creatives. We just create differently. That's the beautiful thing; that we can take something that's been done so many times but make it something totally new. But taking somebody else's thing entirely and claiming it as your own? Not so pretty.

I really don't know where the heck I'm going with this. I think I just needed to vent about individuality, especially in the blogging/ creative world. I get it, it's hard to be original. But is it really that hard? We're all entirely different. So why is it "easier" to be the same?

I think you have to find your thing and run with it. Put your own spin on things. Trust me, nobody's done it exactly like you will if you just take the time. And please, I beg you, if you wanna make t-shirts, make up your own things.

And if you just want to hang with your dog? Let Taylor help you out & you'll be helping the pups as well.

What's your take on originality? Did this post even make sense? Guess it's Blabby Cathy Monday over here....

Breast Reduction 101 (Part Two)

Friday, April 8, 2016

Hey hi! SO, remember our chat last week? We left off right before the surgery, so now let's get into the nitty-gritty of the actual process & recovery.

I don't actually remember too much about the day of, at least before. I can't even tell you what time the surgery was scheduled for, but I do remember it was very early morning. One memory that sticks out to me- and one that I use as an anecdote on my anxiety- is when I was in the pre-op room getting hooked up to everything. By that point my whole body was on edge & when I got hooked up to the heart monitor it was preeetty obvious. One of the nurses even looked at me, with her concerned nurse's face on, and said, "Sweetie, do you have a heart condition??" Nope, just anxiety that makes my heart beat 5000x past the normal range, no big.

Anyway, after that is when things start to get fuzzy. They wheeled me into the OR, put the anesthesia mask on, & the next thing I know I'm in outpatient recovery. Apparently I'm a hit on anesthesia so I can only imagine the show I was giving the nurses LOL. They gave me a mirror to look at my chest and it was kind of a surreal moment.

After awhile they let my parents come into the room & had me sit in a chair, & that's when I think I actually realized "oh hey, I'm in pain." And y'all, there was pain. It was like an elephant sitting on my chest? But once they started me on pain meds all was good. In fact, it was so good that I'm pretty sure I slept the whole way home.......

The total recovery time was about four-ish weeks, right on schedule with Christmas break. The first few days were really rough. The recliner was my temporary home & if I wasn't asleep from the meds, I was in pain. I think the pain was pretty much gone within two weeks, (don't worry, each day was better than the last) I still just had to be careful about what I did. When I was cleared to wear a "real" bra I was sooooo happy about it. (VS was too, since they got all my money that day)

I'm still happy about it. By now there is only tiny scars, but I don't mind them anyway. It's a small price to pay for such a good thing. Before I actually had plastic surgery, my views on it were a little skewed. Now, not so much. Of course I believe in embracing your flaws & loving yourself, but if you are really unhappy & want to change something, you do you. That's not to say you should get procedure-happy a-la Heidi Montag, but maybe there's a happy medium? I say all this to say that I do not regret my surgery, one bit. I no longer cry in the dressing room because my chest won't cooperate with anything. I no longer feel like my proportions are out of place. I can't say the surgery took all of my confidence issues away, but it has helped tremendously.

Luckily everyone in my life was super supportive, but unfortunately that's not always the case, as the "it's like slapping God in the face" (why do people think saying that is cool anyway? ANYWAY) & comments of the like seem to be popular. BUT guess what. It's your body. If you're ever thinking about this surgery, do it. For yourself, your health, and your happiness. Those that matter will support you, trust me. The topic of plastics (hey, Grey's) is no longer taboo by any means, but for some reason I feel like breast reductions still are. Wonder why. #feminism am I right?
Seriously though, if anyone ever has questions on this topic, don't be afraid to email, snapchat, call me beep me.... Lemme know if these posts have helped you!

Fran's wishlist

I'm kind of obsessed with Francesca's lately. In becoming more "socially aware" of fast fashion & sustainability, (I think I'm gonna write up a full post on all that soon) I've been trying expand my shopping horizons a bit more.

Enter Frannie's. (I'm so sorry that I've given a lovely shop such an annoying nickname) Off-the-shoulder is a trend I'm definitely on board with, & one can never have too many denim skirts. Or rompers & dresses, floral or otherwise. (how chic is the pink one up top??)

HOW ABOUT YOU? Which piece is your favorite? Also, lemme know about your favorite boutiques!

Amber Collared Romper

Monday, April 4, 2016

Sometimes I like a little contrast in the springtime. Wearing tones that are normally autumnal/ winter-y is unexpected & breaks up the routine a little.

With a simple outfit like this, my favorite way to add a little extra is with a bracelet or floral-y bag.

What are your favorite warm tones to wear?
