December Favorites

Wednesday, December 30, 2015

Can you believe this is my twelfth and final favorites post of the year? Time to start it all over again.

BUT FIRST. A few favorites from December:

I've never really been a user of face primer, just eyes. But if you wear face makeup you should really prime it first to get a smooth canvas that "sticks." So when Borghese gifted me with their Prima Viso primer I was eager to try it out, and I've noticed my bronzer stays on better. So, WDAC seal of approval official.

Essie's Leggy Legend made an appearance for most of the month because what's more festive than gold glittery tones?

December is one of my favorite times to break out my go-to lipstick, Rimmel Kate 107. It's such a perfect shade of red and complements nearly every skin tone.

The overall dress featured here is so versatile and I feel like it's chic while managing to be effortless, which is what my winter wardrobe needs to be.

Another f21 find.... this little cream dress. (for some reason I could only find it on the European site) It was the Christmas Eve outfit and I couldn't think of a better one.

Everything else:

This month's read was recommended to me, I'll Give You Sun by Jandy Nelson. I've never read any of Jandy's previous novels, but this one sounded good. I'm halfway through and it's got me.

Does this next one count if I've only had it for five days? I'm gonna say yes. (I make the rules, duh) 25 is everything it's been hyped up to be. Her vocals kill and there's not one song that doesn't make me feel things. Plus, I've had the line "Send my love to your new lo-over" in my head on a loop and I can't even be mad about it.

I decided to start Grey's Anatomy a couple weeks ago. It's not like I'd never seen an episode, in fact I've seen a lot of them over the years. But I was always just a casual watcher, only mildly attached. But now... now I can't stop clicking next episode and wondering how my life got to this point. Casual.

YOUR TURN. What products did you fall in love with this December? Any oldie-but-goodies like that lipstick of mine? Spill.

What I Got For Christmas 2015

Monday, December 28, 2015

I always like reading these blog posts/ watching youtube videos, mostly because I'm nosier than Gladys Kravitz.

Anyway, I got so many lovely things that I'm thankful for. Big gifts are nice, but I always like getting a bunch of cute, random assortments of small ones like:

Some things off my list (that I FORGOT TO PHOTOGRAPH) like the KS address book, Stars Hollow wall art, and this Trendy Sparrow wall hanging. (At least that one managed to get in the photo) Another favorite was the Adele album that I've been blasting for three days. It's fine.

My cousin's lovely wife works at Lilly (I need that job asap) and I was gifted with some cool little journals and a couple of clutches, as well as the Anthro monogram mug that like every blogger has. We've already had an instagram moment.

Coffee seemed to be front and center this year (wonder why) and now I've got all the frappuccinos and K-cups and grounds I could ever need. For the month at least.

Now that Incredible Things has been added to the mix, my perfume collection includes every Taylor Swift perfume, ever. But who's counting?

This was the year of adult coloring books (why do they call them that anyway? Who cares that I'm an adult with a coloring book? It's kind of like the man bun thing. No. You're just rocking a bun. Get over it.) and I'm a liiiitle excited to make them all pretty. My sister even threw in gel pens. Yeah.

And of course the array of gift cards..... always welcome. Always treasured.

There was also a selfie stick involved, which is all a blogger needs really. I hope it doesn't get tired easily.

There's more bits of odds and ends I didn't share, but still love. This Christmas was pretty laid back and good like always.

OKAY. Your turn. Tell me what you got! How did you spend your day?

And just like that, it's here.

Dropping in to wish you a wonderful Christmas!

My head is filled with some fun little dreams for WDAC in the new year, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Until then, have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Winter Essentials

Monday, December 21, 2015

Christmas week also means the (official) arrival of winter, as if it's not obvious by the change in climate and skin that begs "moisturize me" more times than Cassandra on Doctor Who. (anyone remember that)

Anyway, I've found a few essentials that help make the season a bit easier on well, everything:

Beauty essentials

One of my hair care must-haves is the Hair Food mask, and it's especially needed in the wintertime. It hydrates the hair and leaves it feeling so. soft. I used to use it once a week, but lately I've been incorporating into every hair wash and I'm even more in love with the results.

Olay's face wash is another essential, a winter skin saver if you will. I'm obsessed with how refreshed it makes my face feel every morning.

My hands get extra dry this time of year, so I keep a travel sized tube of Jergens in with my makeup so it's there when I need it.

Another rough area is my heels (few feelings are more ick than the feeling of cracked heels snagging on your socks) and Earth Therapeutics massage lotion is a lifesaver. Tea tree oil helps with the healing, while mint and lavender give the perfect calming effect.

Now onto lippies.....

I used to read that you should exfoliate your lips like the rest of your skin, but I was like eeeh. Lip balm is good. Little did I know, exfoliators actually make a world of difference. Add some balm after and dry lips won't stand a chance.

You'll also need a lovely little red lipstick.... you can never go wrong with Rimmel Kate 107.

Fashion Essentials

I could go on about my winter fashion loves, but two of those things are essential for the season:
a fashionable + functional coat and a good little pair of booties. (don't worry, you can find regular size replicas of these everywhere)

Everything else

I love filling my room with warm candles on a cozy winter night (Fireside Hearth is one of my faves)  as well as a good playlist. It creates a kinda chill vibe that's much needed.

I also love hot chocolate. Lots of it. Add some popcorn & m&ms and voila. Instant nostalgia. And don't forget the marshmallows....

The key to surviving winter is finding products to help fight seasonal blues, (stay tuned for more on that) smooth out ick dry skin, and make sure your wardrobe's ready for the storms, all while staying chic.

Did I miss anything? Spill all your essentials for the season!

Rarely Tidy

Friday, December 18, 2015

In bloggy world, there comes a time when it seems like you're surrounded by nothing but "looks like there's no post" days. Luckily I somehow always manage to get it together in the end and create a spectacular piece that is wept over.

Or at least ya know, gets some comments.

Today was one of those days, so instead of racking my brain into oblivion, I took some photos of the old Christmas tree a-la Sarah, hoping it would spark some sort of magic.

Blogger confession: My nails were chipped so I re-painted my right hand for this photo. (I know. I hate me too.)

Anyway. Back to magic. (ha)

I'm always wishing I was a super organized blogger with posts ready to go weeks in advance, but that's just not me. I want it to be. Maybe it will, but just not now. Sometimes my brain works better when it's messy (creative minds are rarely tidy, right?) and I don't have it all together.

I think one of my goals for the new year is to be more mindful of how I want to do something, but not get hung up on it. We're too hung up on things and too hard on ourselves if we don't have it all together.

Maybe there wasn't a point to this post. I don't know. I do that I wish I was something too much. More organized. More motivated. More whatever.

Maybe I should just.... be.

Instagrams You Should Be Following

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Instagram and me go together like margaritas and Mexican food. Hot chocolate and marshmallows. Peanut butter and jelly.....You get the idea.

It's not all in vain, though. IG is on the top of my social media list for a reason: the photos. ("DUH Kaeleen," you say) Hang with me.

The photos that strike inspiration in me in some way as I'm scrolling through my feed are the ones I appreciate the most, whether it's a perfectly placed Starbucks cup or a witty quote or pretty outfit. AKA photos from feeds like the ones below. (segway, HEY OH)

// @heleneinbetween
Helene's blog is always full of inspiration and pretty things and her instagram is no different.

// @tayloredwards
Taylor is a (super rad) musician who followed me on twitter awhile back so obviously I had to do some lurking of my own. The results? Her use of pretty filters gives the perfect mix of laid-back California and girly hipster vibes.

// @rowanblanchard
My love for Rowan runs deep and her feed is filled with everything from colorful skies to posts on important social issues.

Arin's blog + feed combine some of my most favorites: glitter, color and pretty things.

A photo posted by ✨ Arin ✨ (@heartofchic) on

// @thedailytay
How do I even describe Taylor? Witty, creative, and obsessed with her dog? Yeah, that's it. Somehow her feed captures all of it wonderfully.

Katy's photos are always perfectly curated, captured, and inspiring. I don't know, it's like she makes creative content on the regular or something.

What are some of your favorite feeds? Tell me who I should follow next! (I'm over at @misskaemichelle, if you were curious. you know.)

Over the Edge

Monday, December 14, 2015

Let's just say Forever 21 knows what they're doing with their entry statements.

When I walked in and this little overall dress was hanging right in the front, it was everything I didn't know I needed. It was almost in slow motion, me walking over and taking it off the rack.

What I like about overall dresses is you can pretty much pair them with anything and layer them for any season, and the faux leather on this one adds an edge.

Bonus tip: Bad hair day? Floppy hat. Bam.

Stocking Stuffer Alert... e.l.f. Mad For Matte

Friday, December 11, 2015

The other day I was out doing some Christmas shopping and discovered this matte lip set. e.l.f. is one of my favorite brands so trying out these guys was a given.

There's four colors in the set and they each have a bit of a berry tone to them, even Dash of Pink.

Though not as durable as Rimmel, the staying power is pretty strong and I like the way the stick is sort of like a crayon; it makes for a more controlled application.

These would make such a great little gift or stocking stuffer! (or a gift for you because obviously)

Have you tried these? Tell me what you think of them!

Mood Board Vol. 4 | Festive Edition

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

I've still got a couple weeks left of school (oh finals) but my mind is in full Christmas mode, as evidenced by the insane amount of photos I've been scouring.

My favorite way of spending down time this time of year is wrapped up drinking gingerbread lattes and hot chocolate and pretty much every other winter drink you can think of, a Christmas record going, and writing or wrapping gifts.

It can be easy to let the fast pace of the season hit you, so in those times I try and take it in even more.

It's weird, but it works for me.

How do you like to cozy up?

The Perfect Coat

Monday, December 7, 2015

I'd been searching for a new coat since last season to no avail.

That is, until a couple months ago when I found this baby at Target.

I was first drawn to the vintage-y southwestern feel and was pleasantly surprised to find it not only looked comfy and warm, but actually is.

I love the shape it gives the waist when it's tied and the way an all-black ensemble chic-ly brings it all together.

Have you found a coat you treasure? How do you wear it? Spiiiiill.

Bedside Essentials

Friday, December 4, 2015

According to pinterest, the bedside table is one of the most important aspects of a bedroom.

However, in all the fuss of the aesthetic, sometimes the things actually on it get overlooked. But what's the point of having a pretty nightstand if all it's got on it is three empty water bottles and gum wrappers? (this has never happened to me, never)

So, what goodies do I have for a good night's sleep? Take note.

Lip balm
Applying lip balm (eos is a fave) before bed has become such a routine to me that I don't even think about it anymore. It's just boom and boom, especially from November- March when my lips are dryer than my hair after a good blowout.

Foot lotion + hand cream
If you've been on your feet most of the day (or even part of it) chances are they're as tired as you are. Give them a break. Oh, and moisturize your hands too.

Lavender oil
Lavender is a known calming scent, and a drop of essential oil on the feet is sometimes all you need.

A calming candle
Of course I'll light mine sometimes, but I feel calm just by looking it. (is that weird?)

Lavender pillow spray
I've raved about my Earth Therapeutics pillow mist before (now in a generic bottle because I broke the original) and spritzing some is the last thing I do before turning out the light or diving into a book. (Segway, hey oooh)

Reading material
The book I'm reading at the time will always make its way onto my nightstand. It's easy to get to when I'm ready to snuggle up with it, and there's nothing like falling asleep to a really good book.

YOUR TURN. What's on your beside table? Anything I should add? Tell meee.

Santa Tell Me

Christmas list

Maybe December 2nd is a little early to throw a wishlist up, but everyone has been asking me for ideas so I figured I'd just go ahead and make everyone happy.

(and by everyone I actually mean my mom. hey mom.)

Is it just me, or is it harder to think of a list for yourself as you get older? Now I find myself focusing more on what to get other people (I guess that means I'm an okay person to have in your life) but I kind of neglect myself in the process. Plus instead of toys and Barbies it's boring adult stuff. (sometimes)

BUT it's okay now. A list has been made.

1// Prints & mugs. The Trendy Sparrow is probably my favorite etsy shop to ever etsy and her art prints are always so pretty. This one is perfect to hang next to my desk while drinking coffee from this super relatable mug and working on my (what else) blog.

2// 25 vinyl. I know what you're thinking. "Kaeleen, you haven't listened to the album yet. How do you know you'll like it?" It's Adele. I'll know.

3// Gilmore Girls poster. I saw this on tumblr once and that was it. I need it in my life.

4// Bodum French Press. I've been wanting to get myself a french press and become a fancy diy barista for like, forever.

5// KS address book. In my efforts be get more organized, what could possibly be better help? And it's chic, too.

Tell me if you've made your list and what goodies are on it! Also: Do you like gift cards? What are your faves? (mine include forever 21 & starbucks.... cough)
