October Favorites

Friday, October 30, 2015

October brought some goodies into my life. (and not just yummy candy) Let's see what made the favorites:

First things first:

I found this lovely little Mossimo crossbody and I've become obsessed. I love my Kate but I wanted something a little more autumnal/ wintery. So this bag it was. The deep burgundy and the details on the front.... it's so pretty. And it doesn't look that big, but you can fit quite a bit in there.

This Olay cleanser feels so so good and hydrating.

Pretty sure I bring out a new candle in like every month's favorites, but I absolutely this Sandalwood & Spiced Honey scent from Target. (Where else?) It basically smells like the inside of a Bath & Body Works in autumn, and who can resist the gold? That's what pulled me in in the first place....

Essie is also a frequent winner, and for good reason. This month's pick, Leggy Legend, is an October-January essential. The perfect golden hue with a fun touch of glitter screams holiday party season.

Thanks to Zoella, Rimmel Kate 107 lipstick is my #1, "ride or die" if you will. This month, I discovered that 030 is another color that everyone needs in their life. A lovely autumnal plum, it's semi-matte and lasting finish and I'm actually obsessed.

Recently there's been quite a few good albums out, and Selena Gomez is a top pick. Y'all. That album is gooood.

Also: My girl is always on the list.

Tell me all your faves!

The Winter Skin Saver

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

I don't switch up my face routine often. I stick with what I know works; I like routine.

However, recently I got to try Influenster's Homecoming VoxBox and I've fallen in love with this  Olay Active Botanicals cleanser.

I've been using this one in the mornings (and my normal cleanser at night) and each time it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and ready for the day. It's formulated with Snow Mushroom which creates a lightweight feel and gives a healthy glow, and it's perfect protection from the upcoming harsh breeze of winter.

I just add in this moisturizer and my face is instantly smooth and makeup ready.

This cleanser is the perfect first step to your daily routine! Have you tried it yet?

Three Easy Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Monday, October 26, 2015

As much as I love Halloween and picking new costumes each year, I kind of get lazy with things and I always end up waiting til the last minute and then I usually just fall back onto my "go-to" costume. (A ride or die, if you will)

But fall back no more, because I've got three easy costume ideas you can throw together easy peasy.

Cher costume

There's no denying Clueless is a classic, and so are Cher's outfits. Her famous plaid look is easy to re-create with pieces you probably already own.

I'm a Mouse Costume

Who can forget the Mean Girls scene with Karen's "I'm a mouse. Duh"? As usual, Target's got you with their graphic tee. Add some leggings and mouse ears and voila! If you wanna throw a little diy in, you can even make your own shirt.

Flapper Costume

And then we've got my personal go-to, the flapper look. Always classy and fun, you can go for an actual costume dress or a fringed dress from a favorite store.

Now let's play a game called which one will be my costume this year........

What's your fave last-minute look? Any go-to's?

Essie Leggy Legend

Friday, October 23, 2015

I think I may have found my favorite Essie color ever. (I know I say that about every color, but for real.)

Leggy Legend is the epitome of autumn. Gold tones, pretty, a bit of sparkle, and the loveliest of lovely.

The formula is one of their best; no streaks or opaqueness and one coat looks great on its own, although two is my go-to.

Brb, time to wear this for the rest of forever!

Have you tried this color? Tell me thoughts.

Do you ever watch a video or read a blog post and every point the person makes you're just nodding your head and silently yelling yaaaas? (or out loud, no shame)

So the other day I was watching the lovely HelloKaty's most recent video and I had a lot of those moments, particularly when she was talking about the use of the word goals.

Somehow somewhere along the way, social media gave new life to that word. Friendship goals and squad goals and my personal favorite, body goals (shudder) are abundant. I actually say "goals" a lot.(in this post especially) I've probably even said it to Katy before, (sorry girl) and I always mean it as a compliment. Like, hey girl, your outfit is goals. Your brows? GOALS.

But something I've realized is that all the things we use goals as a descriptor for are usually superficial. Maybe I shouldn't take these things quite so literally, but I kinda feel like we're focusing way too much on other people. Like Katy said,

"If another person is your goal then you have a very warped perception of life."

I think instead of putting so much weight on the physical and superficial, the things other people have that we can't change about ourselves, we should pay more attention to what's inside. (I tried to put that in a way that didn't sound like an after school special but alas) You can start to get so wrapped up in wanting someone else's (seemingly) perfect life that you just watch yours go by without really participating.

And for what? These people may have pretty clothes but that really doesn't mean anything if their qualities aren't admirable.

Like, Taylor Swift is goals because of her kindness and genuine-ality. (I made that a word don't worry)
Rowan Blanchard is goals because of her intelligence and eloquence.
Helene is goals because she can take anything and turn it into blogging gold.

Taking qualities about people you admire as inspiration isn't a bad thing, as long as you don't try to become that one part of them so much that you actually do. Keep yourself front and center.

But the whole #bodygoals (I could do a whole other post on how twisted that one is) and #relationshipgoals and all the others have got to stop. It's not fair for anyone to be put on such a pedestal, and it's not fair to you to make those expectations for yourself.

I feel like this is kinda all over the place but it's been on my mind. Where do you stand on the #goals madness?

1989 | One for the Books

Monday, October 19, 2015

Oh how Saturday night was one for the books.

If you follow my snapchat (shameless @kaemichelle promo) that became embarrassingly clear early on in the evening.

Things happen while preparing for Taylor Swift, and then you learn some things once you're actually there. Like:

// The fact that Taylor is not human. You realize that she is instead in fact some sort of magical fairy that sprinkles pretty dust on everything she touches.

// Sometimes the moms have way more fun than their kids. And that's totally cool. You do you, moms.

// Two hours is really not enough time at all.

// I could write this whole big thing on the show, (trust me, it's on loop in my mind) but I think everything can be summed up into this:

Taylor Swift shows are a fairytale wonderment that everyone should get to experience.

How to Prepare for a Taylor Swift Concert

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

When preparing for a Taylor Swift concert, there's some important things to keep in mind:

Gather the essentials. Try not to cry. Cry anyway. Repeat. Sounds reasonable.

Army of essentials
You'll need some staples for the night. Examples? Red lipstick. Camera. Glitter. In fact, cover yourself in the stuff. (Metaphorical glitter works too)

Try not to cry.
I get it, this is like, a big deal or whatever. But try not to make a fool out of yourself, yeah? Get it together.

Cry anyway.
Did you actually think you could get it together?

This awful great post is actually a lowkey (I started saying that word ironically and now I can't stop) way of trying to keep myself chill for the weekend.

That being said, tell me if you've seen her this tour. I wanna know ALL THE THINGS.

New Music For the Week

Monday, October 12, 2015

If you need some new music in your life, Jana Kramer and Selena Gomez both released new albums on Friday.

I really like Jana Kramer and Thirty One is definitely country. Love and I Got the Boy are two of my favorite tracks, along with Said No One Ever.

I have to admit that the Selena album is good. Like dang good.

Same Old Love has been an obsession ever since it's been a single, and now we have Camouflage and Rise to add.

And finally, I've taken the liberty of putting these songs into a playlist.

Because when Taylor Swift recommends songs, you listen to them.

What have you been listening to lately?

Midterms Survival Kit (Ft. Influenster)

Friday, October 9, 2015

I'm not a fan of midterms. Or finals. Or tests at all, if we're bein real.

But, they come, and they're here. Yikes.

You can totally relax, though, because I've thrown together a little kit of everything you'll need to survive:

The key to success in college is a really good planner. I love my Day Designer; there's separate areas for monthly and weekly calendars and it's easy to plan out your days. I don't know about you, but I feel a little more guilty about procrastinating when I have my study plans written down!

When you think of studying, I'll bet a big cup of coffee comes to mind. (And then you'll get to the studying, of course) This year's fall blend from Starbucks will perk you right up.

You're gonna need some brain food. Okay, so I wouldn't exactly call chips brain food, but close enough, right? I love Kettle Brand chips and their Jalapeno potato chips* are delish. And hot. Good thing you have all that coffee.

I can't work without music, and they say jazz is good for the brain. I don't know for sure, but I know this playlist is perfect for studying. If pop/ EDM is more your study vibe, Helene's GSD is for you.

When you need a break, painting your nails is a good distractor. Sinful Colors' SinfulShine* makes for a quick, cute mani that will last through your tests and beyond.

{in Rendezvous}
And when it's finally all over (or that break turned into crying) Netflix and a big pack of yummy Red Vines* are waiting for you.

Go to them.

*The items marked with an asterick (*) were received complementary from Influenster for testing purposes, but as always all opinions are my own.

Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth Foundation

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

I've never been much of a foundation person. I feel like I have my BB cream and I'm set.

But something in me recently decided to try some of the "real" stuff, if not for that good old fashioned dewy, fresh look we all hope to achieve. Or maybe it's just me.

I love the Fit Me line (Their concealer is to die) so I trusted the foundation would be just as good.

A tip: Figure out what your skin type is. I honestly have had no idea... all I know is my forehead is oil city. So when a foundation says it's for normal to dry skin, it should totally work on me, right? (I can feel the beauty gurus cursing me)

Yeeeeeah, not so much.

Every time I touched my face it felt oily. And don't get me started on that forehead. Even when I wasn't touching it it felt heavier and just.... ick.

However, I absolutely love the look and staying power of this stuff. It kind of glides on and you get more of that dewy feel. With a powder on top, it lasts all day and the added coverage looks lovely.

So it's not the foundation. It's me. As long as you get the right one for your skin, this stuff is the perfect addition to your collection.

Do you pay attention to skin types? What do you love/ hate about the Fit Me line? Spill.

Forever 21 Haul

Monday, October 5, 2015

I recently took a little trip to Forever 21 and found some pretty fall inspired gems.

HINT: There's a few dresses involved.

My obsession with scarves began at an early age and it shows no signs of slowing down, so it's only natural that this plaid one pulled me in.

Keeping with the plaid trend, I snagged this gingham because you can never have too many of those.

Now we've come to the best part: dresses.

This grey one is absolutely perfect for autumn layering and I love how the cut makes it looks like two separate pieces. Always a sucker for fashion magic.

There's something about those fall/ winter whites, which is why I fell for that button down. It's flowy and with some tights and cowboy boots it's autumn ready.

I'm so in love with this creamy lace dress (similar link) that I want to wear it every day. Forever. It's perfect for all the holiday parties.

Confession: I haven't had a plain LBD in quite some time. But when I put this one on, I was sold. It's such a great wear-on-its-own and layering dress, plus it's super soft and flowy, so it can be worn year-round.

Spill all your latest fashion finds!

Chilly air, crimson leaves.
The warm scent of apple that fills the room, the coziness of a favorite sweater,
Pretty pumpkins, romantic landscapes.
She feels her life start over in the middle of an October afternoon.
