August Favorites | Beauty + Music

This is it. August is gone which means you should be getting ready for scarf season and pumpkin everything.

Okay, maybe I'm getting a liiittle ahead of myself.

Anyway, August might've been crazy busy, but it didn't stop me from falling in love with a few things:

I really love Earth Therapeutic's products and this month I decided to try their lavender pillow mist, since anxiety and bedtime are obviously not the best of friends. I'm always hesitant when trying a new "calming" routine because not everything works for everyone. However, I'm happy to report that this stuff is super helpful and it smells so good!

A mini version of the Lorac Behind the Scenes eye primer came with my Unzipped palette and I've been using it every time I wear shadow. And when I don't? The shadow doesn't last as long and it gets that ugly crease. So obviously I'm obsessed with this primer.

For the longest time I'd just been using regular concealer under my eyes, but it never seemed to fully get rid of my horrid dark circles. So I decided to invest in some actual under eye concealer from e.l.f. and surprise surprise, dark circles be gone. (For the most part, anyway) This gem is actually a concealer/ highlighter duo so if you're wanting to contour, bam!

Speaking of e.l.f. I also found this handy shadow shield that catches all the eyeshadow fallout that could ever happen. (And if you use a lot of shimmer, it's a lot)

Boots Botanics has become one of my favorite skincare brands, and I recently added a new product to add to my routine. This organic facial oil is super soothing and hydrating, and don't ask me how but I swear it helps with those under eye circles.

In the music department, I'm loving Kacey Musgraves' newest record Pageant Material. (I love the pink vinyl) Honestly she's probably one of the best things to happen to country music in awhile.

Bea Miller is also a favorite of mine, as is her album. Girl's got vocals.

What favorites did you discover in August? Any recommendations?

I'm a pretty sentimental person. It's a classic Cancer trait; I have a whole box of random keepsakes, appreciate the art of handwritten notes, and will cry at the drop of a hat when Fifteen comes on. (Because, obviously)

Which is why it was weird when I realized I didn't really feel any different when the house I grew up in was sold.

But now that it's gone I'm feeling bittersweet. It's kind of like graduating high school. (Why does that feel like a lifetime ago?) It's an ending but a whole lot of beginnings.

So here's to new beginnings, yes?

Makeup Menu 001

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

I love playing around with makeup and trying new looks, but I still have a current go-to I reach for when in need.

This isn't a set look of course, sometimes I mix it up. But for the most part, this is the no-fail routine.

Let's delve in, shall we:
It seems like I'm always reaching for Chanel's all-in-one healthy glow to start off under the eyes. I feel like it's good coverage and it's got a little SPF as well. Then it's on to the essential BB cream that gets great coverage yet feels so light. It has more of a matte feel to it, but it's still a favorite. This ELF under eye concealer is the bomb, always making it look like I'm not sleepless and over caffeinated.

I know it's near the end of summer, but it's still a thousand degrees which means if I'm gonna do a shadow, it's gonna be light. And maybe with some shimmer.... which is why I've been using the heck out of my Lorac Unzipped Gold and Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes palettes. An oldie but a goodie, Line Stiletto still gives a perfect wing. And for those lashes, I'm seriously addicted to the Lash Sensational madness.

I'm still obsessed with Anastasia's Perfect Brow pencil. So much precision, every time. Finishing off with some clear mascara helps the look last foreeeever.

Cheeks + Lips
And finally, this NYX blush gives my cheeks a sweep of rose that's not too drastic. In the summertime I always gravitate toward brighter lipsticks, (because, duh) and two of my absolute favorites are from NYX and Maybelline. A perfect finishing touch.

Tell me what products you've been reaching for lately!

When Things Get Overwhelming

Monday, August 24, 2015

I don't know about you, but I'm all all about those moments you feel like you have it all together. They're fleeting and when they happen you know it's too good to be true.

One minute it's chill and then suddenly you're about to move and go back to school at the same time while trying to manage a blog, a job, and life and you're running on overdrive and caffeine and you're certain you're not gonna make it. (Totally hypothetical situation, obviously)

Chill out. This sounds oh so much easier said than done, but if you take a sec to just chill and make a plan, you'll feel sooo much better. (Yoga breaths make all the difference)

Make a game plan. (Wow nice segway) Write down everything that needs to be done and figure out what it will take to achieve it. You'll also have a clearer head once it's no longer all scattered up there.

Prioritize. (AKA the one I'm terrible at) Once you've got your list made, prioritize it. The things you're dreading most are usually the things that should go on top...... And all those distractions that you procrastinate for hours with? coughpinterest. Get rid of them

Disconnect. Sometimes it's less about what you have to do that's overwhelming and more that you feel out of control of a situation, which is never fun. When you disconnect from the world for a sec, you have that moment to breathe and get it together.

How do you handle yourself when it's a thousand miles an hour? Spill.

Bea Miller is probably one of the coolest sixteen year olds around.

Between her killer lungs and heart of gold to match, she's kind of on fire and I'm so here for it.

College Advice From a (Semi) College Dropout

Monday, August 17, 2015

My college experience hasn't been the typical one. I was there for three semesters, then took a break that turned into a "not going back" that turned into deciding on community college. #struggles

When I grew up watching the college years of Boy Meets World and Sister, Sister, I had high expectations. But come to find out, everyone has a different experience and sometimes you end up on a different path than you started on.

I don't regret the path I chose, but there are some things I'd go back and do differently the first time.

In fact, I actually made all these mistakes just so I could tell you what not to to.

Just kidding.

Preparation is key. A lot of times a class' syllabus will be online before class even starts. Look at it. Familiarize it. Have an organization system. Get your books.

Get out of your comfort zone. College is this whole new world that can be overwhelming to unsuspecting eyes, and your default will be to stay with what's comfortable. One of my biggest regrets is not rushing with a sorority, even though I truly wanted to. I couldn't get out of that comfort zone long enough.

Be active on campus. Even at smaller schools, there are sooooo many different clubs/ organizations/ etc. to be involved in and so many friends to be made. There is literally something for everyone.

Don't get lazy. When the going gets tough and netflix is calling your name, remember that resistance is the hardest part. Once you make it through that, get to work. Finish the essay, study for the final until your pupils no longer exist...... whatever you gotta do.

Just, don't be a lazy babe, k?

Take advantage of office hours. Need to ask your prof a question? Does that entire math worksheet need an explanation? (Don't they all) Professors have office hours for a reason, so use them.

Get to know your roommate. (One thing I did right) I've heard about a thousand roommate horror stories over the past few years, but luckily none of them were my own. In most cases the roommate situation is one extreme or the other, and sometimes bad experiences are just unavoidable. But when they're good, they're good.

Make the most of it. Not to sound like a cheeseball, but college is really what you make of it. It's okay if you don't know your major or what you're gonna do after graduation or even what you're gonna have for breakfast the next day. (Probably coffee and stale cheez-its)

Believe me, the majority of people on campus are in the same boat. So just make everything you can out of it and go get smarter and stuff.

Anything you'd add to this little advice-giving sesh?

Sometimes you find a dress that is so absolutely, hopelessly you. Love at first sight. You just know.

That's how I felt when I locked eyes with this gem at Clothes Mentor. It's unique and bold, but not too loud. Just the right amount.

As much as I love this thing, I wanted to know more about the brand, naturally.

Cotton + Candy.

I googled away and you know what I've found? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Sometimes the internet fails you and you're not sure why. Oh well. At least I've got the dress.

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Game Over, Charles

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Last night was the night. After six seasons and five years of our lives that we'll never get back, the identity of A/ Charles was revealed.

I once read a theory that CeCe Drake was actually Charles, making her transgender, and I didn't really pay much attention because to me it was just another theory in the book that wouldn't pan out. Who knew I was wrong?

Eve though some of the reasoning of her being A still doesn't make much sense to me, I should've put the pieces together. Those identical dresses Mrs. D. had. All the creepy twin stuff. The resemblance between Ali and CeCe.

CeCe stole the game from Mona in Radley. Like I said, I'm still confused on the reasoning. She said she hated the way the girls were relieved when they thought Ali was dead, so that entailed tormenting them and ruining their lives?

I knew Sara Harvey was involved somehow, but making her Red Coat and Black Widow seems a bit forced. What were her motives? How did CeCe convince her to help her? Sara didn't even know the girls in the beginning. I don't understand how that was supposed to work.

They said all the questions would be answered in this episode, but there are still so many. Why were Melissa and Wren always so shady? Who killed Mrs. DiLaurentis? Are the moms still stuck in the basement??

I think what I'm having the most feelings over is the time jump. That little "preview" we got was interesting, AND the theory wheels are already turning in my mind. Everyone is wondering who Spencer was talking about when she was like "he's here," and when Ali was writing her name on the blackboard (look who became a teacher?) she wrote a different last name. She's married. I'm thinking the "he" is her husband.

What are your theories on this? Tell me what you thought of the big reveal. Tell me anything really. We're in a drought til winter.

Getting back to the real world after vacation

Monday, August 10, 2015

I'm thoroughly convinced vacations are not part of one calls the "real world."

Oh no, they are on a level all their own, complete with some sort of magical fairy dust and you never want to go back.

But, you must. So how do you float back down from the vacation cloud to real life routines?

Unpack first thing. When you get back home, the urge to leave everything packed for a bit and just take a nap or netflix the day away is strong. But I guarantee if you get everything back in its place, you'll feel better and everything will seem "normal."

Go to work. Even if you're not going straight back to work, act like you are. Check emails, whatever it takes to get you back in that mindset. It'll make the real thing seem like a breeze. Maybe.

Rest up. When your mind is clear, you can get back to the grind with a little more ease. So there, you've got an excuse to sleep in!

What do you do to get your head out of the vacation cloud?

Tell me!

Bits + Baubles || Florida & Fifth Harmony

Friday, August 7, 2015

{view from the sky}
It's been a bit of a busy week.... I flew to Florida for my grandmother's 90th birthday and spent five-ish? days there.

It seemed like the flight getting there was gonna be a breeze... we went through security in like two minutes and we were set. I should've known.

The plane ended up having a brake issue and they had maintenance working on it while we were all sitting there for a good half hour with bad A/C, until finally they decided to move us to another plane.

It ended up not being that bad once we were on the second plane and the pilot was ready. It just wasn't so easy breezy on my anxiety. But I lived.

{Beach exteriors}

On Wednesday (the day after we got back home) I saw Fifth Harmony in town.

It was one giant dance party and I loved every second.

{Bea Miller....she's rad}
{Debby Ryan & The Never Ending... also rad}

{Blurry wonders}
Now it's back to real life.... anyone else ready for fall? (I know, slow your roll Kaeleen)

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Last Dance

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Last night's episode was definitely one of the best of the season so far, even though we still didn't get any real answers. #typical

+ The first question on my mind was where Mona was. Was she not planning on going to prom in the first place? Is she even around? I don't know. I don't understand. This is the real mystery, obviously.

+ I like how this episode was kind of setting things up for the time jump and Haleb in New York is everything I've ever wanted.

+ Honestly I think the biggest thing we learned is that Clark is in fact not working for Charles, but an undercover cop. I honestly didn't see that one coming. It still poses the question: Just how did he get a gun into a school prom?

+ By the way the episode ended, I'm thinking the finale will start by showing Charles' face. When Ali saw him she knew who it was right away and that kind of terrifies me. It could be anybody.

+ The highlight of everything was by far the moms bonding and basically being the Liars in twenty years.

I'm honestly all out of ideas. I don't know who or what I'm expecting next week because I've just given up on trying to figure it out.

But I still try, because that makes sense.....

What about you? Spill your thoughts!

Autumn on my mind

fall transitions

Forever 21 dress / Forever 21 long sleeve shirt / Topshop crop top / Madewell plaid shirt / Forever 21 bib overall / Charlotte Russe flat boots

The beginning of August seems to also begin the crossroads between wanting summer to never end and craving autumn stillness.

Fall has definitely been on my mind, with the fashion of it at the forefront. I know Texas is nowhere near ready to give up 95+ degree days, but that won't stop me from dreaming.

Transitional pieces will be essential in a couple of months, and these are some of my picks that pair well. Too bad this list is a liiitle premature.

What about you? Do you love autumn? Tell me your transitional must haves!
