June favorites

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

2015 is halfway over. Say whaaaa? It seems like I was rolling out my April favorites not two weeks ago and now it's onto June!

This month I think it was quality over quantity- there's not necessarily an abundance of products, but the ones that made it made it for lovely reasons. So let's get started:

Florence + The Machine's newest album was released at the end of May and it's a beautifully written and put together record. I find Florence's vocals haunting in the loveliest ways and I'm beginning to think she's this generation's Stevie Nicks. And I dig it.

I ended up getting this Taylor perfume for my birthday and it obviously became a favorite in less than a week's time. Its notes include peony, magnolia petals, vanilla, and cashmere musk, amongst others.

I snagged this beauty of a lotion on my most recent VS trip. It's one of those scents that reminds you of another scent you used to wear but don't remember what it was called.... in any case Such a Flirt is my lotion of the moment.

The cutie little travel mug was another birthday gift, this one from my sister. She gets me.

I've been talking about the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette, for good reason. It's filled with such light, pretty summer-y colors and so many looks can be created.

My birthday gift to myself was my first Kate Spade bag and I absolutely adore it. I'd been wanting one of her bags for quite awhile, but never had the guts to drop the $$. So at the beginning of June I figured, "It's my birthday month. Why not." I fell in love with this one in particular because of the color. It's a minty blue that pairs well with more than you'd think and it's not too over the top. I was a bit concerned about the size at first because I normally carry larger bags and I have so much crap I wasn't sure it would all fit. But after some compromising and organizing, it all came together. I don't regret a penny spent.

As far as TV goes, you know PLL is always a favorite.
Orange is the New Black was SOGOOD. (aside from Piper's character development regressing so far behind I can't even remember why we liked her in the first place) To be honest I kinda teared up at that last scene when they were all in the lake. All that was missing was NICKY.
If you've ever seen Boy Meets World, please do yourself a favor and watch Girl Meets World. Thank me later.

Your turn to spill all the things you fell in love with this month!

Genius business idea {Where you at, Mark Cuban}

Monday, June 29, 2015

There is a growing issue amongst the fashion industry that must be addressed immediately.

Bralettes and bandeau bras are gorgeous, feminine and a bit of a necessity for certain summer fashions. That's nothing new.

What else is old news? The er, "well endowed" ladies are pretty much excluded from the bralette bunch. It's a travesty, really.

Even my beloved VS, who never lets me down, has disappointed me time and time again when it comes to this mission. Honestly, is it really so hard to get a little support?

SO. This is what I propose:

All the pretty bralettes and bandeaus you can imagine, in any size. This way, the affected parties will no longer have to think of impossible ways to diy this piece of essential fashion.

A new era, with no heartache, only celebrations. What do you think?

Now, if I could only find an actual designer to collab with....

PS. Need this diy'd? Get an old cami with a built in bra. Cut off the fabric under the bra. Wear over actual bra.

See what we have to deal with??

21 things in 21 years.

{21 years of chic}
Twenty one years of life brings a plethora of lessons and mistakes that can shape you in more ways than one.

That sounded a little too philosophical for a Friday. Sorry.

Anyway, while I don't have the life thing down 100%, (who does?) there are some lessons, tricks, mantras, etc. I've learned along the way that make it a little easier.

21 things I've learned in 21 years:

1// You're more than what you were in high school.

2// You're never going to be everyone's cup of tea. It doesn't matter. Keep doing you.

3// Perms aren't for me everyone.

4// Magic does exist and it's a thing called coffee.

5// Coconut oil changes everything.

6// You don't find happiness by looking ahead or back on your life. You find it when you look around. {Thanks for this one, Taylor}

7// Your soul becomes so much more free once you let go of negativity and jealousy.

8// No one can bring you confidence but you.

9// Finding your creativity can open up so many doors.

10// Not everyone is blessed with the pinterest gene. {AKA doing impossible diy's}

11// Fashion is an art form.

12// Early mornings aren't so bad. It's just the getting out of the bed that's awful.

13// No matter how long I've lived here, I'll never understand Texas weather.

14// Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever.

15// Speak out on the things you're passionate about and believe in.

16// Cutting your hair is a little bit exhilarating.

17// You'll always regret staying up until 2 am.

18// No matter how much you try to fight it, you'll never be able to leave Target empty-handed.

19// Your parents are usually probably right.

20// Be good to people. Compliment them. Be a light.

21// Life's short, talk fast. {Name that show}

And so, this is 21.

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Don't Look Now

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

A lot went down this episode in terms of answers, yet somehow I'm still left with more questions... every time.

+ Anyone else pleasantly surprised they didn't drag the identity of Charles out for the whole season? I wasn't too surprised, however, to learn he was Ali and Jason's brother.

+ The whole thing with Ali's mom keeping the old house because that's where Charles was buried.... she lied about having him cremated, why couldn't she have lied about him actually being dead? She could've planted his headstone years ago as "evidence", although since she never let anybody in the house maybe that's stretching it.

+ Can Caleb just stop?? We need to bottle up his essence and sell it already. But I also totally understand how Hanna could feel like he was suffocating her at the moment.

+ The girls' newest theory is that A knew Charles at Radley, which could totally be possible. The biggest clue A has ever given was Charles, but that's not necessarily their true identity.

+ Still don't trust Sara. I don't know her MO and I don't like not knowing.

+ Spencer's flashbacks were super creepy and I hope Hanna is right in that A was just messing with her by putting fake blood everywhere. Oh A, always keeping it interesting. And twisted.

+ Speaking of twisted, the reason behind Charles being put in Radley is about a ten and a half on the twisted scale. He must've only been like what, seven or eight, and he literally tried to drown his baby sister. That's why I'm not sure I'm totally on board with Charles being dead. If a kid is that messed up then, just imagine what grown up him could be capable of.

Well, they were definitely right about this season being a lot darker. But I kinda like it? What about you? Tell me all the thoughts!

Summer Essentials

Monday, June 22, 2015

Now that summer is officially official, I've gathered my picks of must haves for the season. (There's a few)

A good romper is my unofficial summer uniform and this one is one of my favorites. It's comfortable and pretty- a perfect combination.

Every summertime adventure needs an instant camera. I love my instax! I also recently got a cutie little case for it so I can carry it in style. Be sure to be stocked with film as well!

For me, warmer months mean lighter eyeshadows and I've been obsessed with this palette lately. (I mean I did do a whole post on it) If you wanna summer-ize your look even more, add some blue liner like this one.

The perfect pool or beach day setup: a rad swimsuit and aviators. And of course always use protection: SPF and water are your bffs.

My favorite way to get beach-worthy waves? With this sea salt spray.

Hot weather can make for an oily face, especially if you're already oil prone. Combat it with some oil sheets. These should be on hand at all times!

A candle that smells like a tropical paradise or sweet spun sugar at a summer carnival can instantly improve your mood, as well as painting your nails fun colors.

The season just isn't right without an ultimate soundtrack that's driving-with-the-windows-down ready.

And some good summer reads should always be nearby! Sarah Dessen is on my forever list. I like checking out other blogs and tumblr for recommendations too.

Your turn! Spill all your next few months' essentials. Anything you'd add?

Bits + Baubles and a birthday wishlist

Friday, June 19, 2015

{Dog hair is part of the aesthetic now}
{Dress: Target | Vest: Papaya | Boots: Ariat}

Hi hello. Happy Friday!

I'm slowly emerging from my OITNB haze- I've got two episodes left of this season. {I know, I know, fallin down on the job} So much has gone down already... I knew it was all gonna go downhill when Bennett up and took off. That was my first clue.

Don't even get me started on Piper.

Am I like, the slowest binge watcher ever or is anyone else still with me?

{Next read}
{Vest: F21 | Shorts: Target}

I'll know how 21 feels in a week... I think I've reached the stage in my life where every birthday brings an existential crisis. You know, all the good stuff.

What are some of your favorite summer cocktails? Ideas in 3,2,1...

Birthday wishlist

At what point does it become inappropriate to make birthday wishlists? I'm gonna go ahead and say never.

Who's with me?

// Taylor by Taylor Swift perfume smells amaaazing and I'm constantly questioning why I don't have every single one of my girl's scents. I'm slacking.

// A Dyptique candle that up until recently I've been referring to as "The One All The Bloggers Have." They look like they smell pretty....

// Lorac Pro Palette 2. I love Lorac and I love a good palette. So this is only natural.

// F21. Like maybe an unlimited shopping spree? A girl can dream.

// Bloggers gonna blog shirt. Obviously.

// Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. I've read that sometimes the VS angels use this before going on the runway and that's enough for me.

// You can never have too many summer reads. These have been on my radar recently!

Anyway, I'm off to sleep because lately my brain has decided to go into work mode at midnight.

Maybelline the Blushed Nudes

Thursday, June 18, 2015

Maybelline's The Nudes palette is a go-to for me, so it was inevitable that their newest palette in the collection, The Blushed Nudes, would come home with me.

I've been testing it out for a bit and trying different looks, and by now it's safe to say that I'm actually starting to prefer this one over the regular nudes. The colors are mostly shimmer and it's got a nice mix of light and bold. I've been mixing a lot with colors from this palette and the options are endless.

"Blushed" looks are what I tend to gravitate toward for summer, so naturally I've been reaching for this palette almost daily. I particularly like the pink on the top right and the taupe-ish on the bottom. (The only thing I don't love is that the colors don't have names!)

These are highly pigmented colors and I've learned that some even go on better if you use your finger and blend it out with a brush.

I think I've found a new favorite! (I say that every time I get a new palette. Oops.)

Tell me if you've tried Blushed Nudes! Which colors are your favorite?

Some thoughts on last night's episode:

+ Andrew being adopted is the perfect evidence of him being Charles. I knew they were going to play that up, and they did.

+ We learned that "Charlie" was Jason's childhood imaginary friend, but he wasn't really imaginary? That's kind of confusing. And messed up. Charlie is Charles. Yes?

+ I'm not an Andrew fan but he brought up some pretty strong points when he was telling Aria off. I think sometimes the girls think about other people so much that they don't think of them. Does that make sense? Like, they try to make things better but sometimes they make it worse.

+ Everyone seems a little bit too trusting of Sara. She just seems so... off. And not just from being in the dollhouse for so long; her whole presence just seems shaky.

+ Where. Is. Mona

What are your thoughts? Tell me everything!

Taylor Swift made me do it.

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

I haven't worn a pair of overalls since I was about five years old. It's a 90's trend that I was horrified was coming back. Overalls? Shortalls? Eek.

I could just hear that Clueless line, "She could be a farmer in those clothes." I couldn't see how it could be possible to make overalls chic.

But if anyone can get me to do something out of my comfort zone, it's Taylor Swift. The moment I saw her wearing this little number, I was in love. And inspired.

I think the look of overall shorts, or "shortalls," are an updated take and they're perfect for summer, obviously.

Most crop tops don't come up as high on my 4'10" frame, but I made it work for me. Since overalls are denim, you can get creative with the tops. They can be print or plain, whatever you're feelin.

Paired with a pretty bag and some wedges or sandals for a more casual feel, the look is complete.

And then all at once, I become an overalls girl.

What is your opinion on overalls? Rocked the look lately? Tell me how you do it!

The palms

Friday, June 12, 2015

The first time I put this dress on I felt major 70's vibes.

The palm tree print, the skinny white belt.... it all felt vintage-y yet fresh.

When you've got a belt you don't need a huge statement necklace; the belt makes statements already. Just a simple one will do and voila.

Perfectly good to go.

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

My dvr didn't record last night and I was on my way into a spiral when, thankfully, a link was found. Thanks internet, always lookin' out for your girl.

I think this was one of the best episodes as of late, I was so glued to everything and feeling a bunch of things.

So here we go:

+ I thought the we-think-Andrew-is-Charles story was going to be drawn out for a bit like most of the we-think-this-is-A's are, but it only lasted an episode. And now they're back to square one.

+ I like the way they did this episode, letting us in a bit on each of the girls' experiences in the dollhouse and the way they're dealing. It felt more, I don't know... real?

+ Honestly Mrs. Hastings is my least favorite parent sometimes. Yeah, Spencer had pill problems in the past, but she was literally tortured in a dollhouse for three weeks and I don't think refusing to get her anxiety medicine is going to help anything.

+ Out of all the things A has ever done to the girls this is the most twisted. Not just in the obvious ways, (making them torture each other?) but in the little ways too, like taking their bedrooms that they've always felt safe in and ruining them and everything inside.

+ One thing that seems a little off is how fiercely Aria wanted to make sure Andrew looked guilty. She was willing to lie and say she saw his face in the dollhouse. I know they all want it to go away, but her way of going about it was a little sketchy. I don't know. I just know that once you read Aria is A theories there's no going back.

+ And where was Mona this episode? I need to know what happened to her.

+ What is Ali's MO with this cop? If it's another love interest................

+ HALEB. Halebhalebhaleb

Your turn. Spill all the thoughts!

A summer playlist

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Every summer should have a playlist that sets the season, am I right?

For me, this playlist usually includes lotsa country, because there's something about a good country song in the midst of summertime.

Fun pop and chill indie also usually make the list for me.

Basically anything that exudes happiness and the feeling of lazy summer days and nights that you never want to end.

What is it for you?

Also, tell me what's on your summer playlist! Anything I'm missing?

Good Reads | Saint Anything

Monday, June 8, 2015

"Peyton, Sydney's charismatic older brother, has always been the star of the family, receiving the lion's share of their parents' attention and—lately—concern. When Peyton's increasingly reckless behavior culminates in an accident, a drunk driving conviction, and a jail sentence, Sydney is cast adrift, searching for her place in the family and the world. When everyone else is so worried about Peyton, is she the only one concerned about the victim of the accident?

Enter the Chathams, a warm, chaotic family who run a pizza parlor, play bluegrass on weekends, and pitch in to care for their mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Here Sydney experiences unquestioning acceptance. And here she meets Mac, gentle, watchful, and protective, who makes Sydney feel seen, really seen, for the first time."

It feels like I had been waiting forever for this book to be released because diving into a Sarah Dessen is the epitome of what summertime should feel like. Warm, light and oh so sweet.

The thing about this one is it's not always as light as usual. I think the whole plot of it, with drunk driving backgrounds and the feeling of being invisible, is darker and that is what makes it so much more than just another Sarah Dessen novel.

The story always had me wanting to know what happened next and it was predictable and surprising at the same time. I think that's how the best stories are.

Have you read Saint Anything? Lemme know what you thought!

Chaos and lights.

Friday, June 5, 2015

"It's a beautiful mess of chaos and lights
that put the brightest of stars to shame.
The city that never sleeps haunts my dreams
like a lost love that never leaves your mind.

How can I be so in love with somewhere
I've never been?
It seems impossible but it's real.
It's a kind of love that is everlasting,
and my heart's aware of the fact it's been stolen
by blinding city lights
and crowded sidewalks
and I don't think I would change the feeling
even if I could.
Oh how free your soul must be
once you're in a city that's like a dream."

And the livin's easy

Thursday, June 4, 2015

This look was kind of an accident.

I meant to put the top with something else, but I wasn't feeling it. This however, I was.

Thus the little outfit was born and I'm kind of obsessed.

Light, flowy pieces are essential for summertime and this look has got it all, and a bit of accessories put it all together.

I think this is going to end up being my uniform for the next couple of months..... along with all those rompers and dresses, of course.
