My top five perfumes

Thursday, February 26, 2015

I love smelling good. I guess that's kind of a given for everyone, right?

I used to just have one "signature scent" that I was obsessed with, but now I think it's fun to play around with scents and wearing different ones for different occasions.

Over the years I've found some that I really love, so here they are, in no particular order.....
1// Fancy by Jessica Simpson. I've been wearing this scent for years. I first found it when my cousin and I were spraying scents at the mall {Ever tried that? Love it.} and I fell in love. It has very warm vanilla-y notes and I like wearing it to church or dinner or any place I wanna feel a bit.... fancy.

2// Twenty One Black by rue21. Don't write this one off just because it's from rue. It smells sooooo good and is quite strong so it stays with you all day. Although this one has some coconut, I like wearing it in the winter because somehow it reminds me of wintertime. Maybe because I got it last winter? Whatever the case, I love it.

3// Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift. This was Taylor's first ever scent and I've been obsessed since the first time I sprayed it. It's a really good scent for everyday or if you wanna get a little extra flirty.

4// Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture. When I was getting this post ready I realized that my bottle was empty! Guess that means I haven't worn it in awhile..... #oops. I love Viva because it kinda smells like summertime in a bottle. It's light and fresh and I definitely need a new bottle of this stuff.

5// Enchanted Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift.  This one was the "sequel" to  Wonderstruck and honestly I couldn't tell you which one I like better. I like them for different reasons... while the original Wonderstruck is light, Enchanted is more vanilla-y and equally lovely.
Oh hi, reflection.
Bonus Tip:
I once read a quote from Beyonce in a magazine like, years ago that said she liked to spray a bit of perfume in her hair every day so people would smell her when they hugged her. I was like, Beyonce does it, I'll do it.

Lemme tell ya. It works.

So now you can be like Beyonce. You're welcome.

Well. This week's PLL was... bloody. And confusing. What's new?

+ To be honest I feel kind of bad for Alison right now. Like, realizing that your friends genuinely thought you were responsible for making their lives miserable? That's gotta hurt. Knowing what we know now, all my "Ali could be A" theories went buh-bye.

+ I like how Spencer just jet off to London. What about school? I never know with these girls.

+ I actually thought that scene with Spencer finding blood in her bag in the middle of her interview at Oxford was a bad dream. But nooope. Will we ever find out whose blood it is? What were A's exact intentions by putting it there? So many questions.

+ I called Aria and Andrew happening. I don't know how I feel about it.

+ This episode had me warming up to Talia a lot more. I think we can trust her. I think.

+ There's three weeks until we find out who A actually is. Except I don't think we'll ever really find out. Call me a pessimist.....

What are your PLL thoughts?

It's Your Body, It's Your Life.

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Treat your body like the temple that it is.

Don't overwork it, don't deprive it. Treat it well.

It's the only one God made for you.

I've spent so much time putting my body through crap when I should be trying to just make it healthy. I'm so sick of how much emphasis is put on weight and achieving the "perfect body." {There's no such thing, by the way}

The emphasis should be on loving your body and treating it well. Don't ever feel like you're not deserving of a beautiful, healthy life.

You are. It's your body, it's your life. Love them both.

Monday Musings + Some Inspo

Monday, February 23, 2015

I used to hate Mondays. Sometimes I still wish they wouldn't come.

BUT, they do, so why not make the most of it? It's a new week and Mondays are the perfect time to start bossing it up. Get out there and look for new inspiration.

Speaking of, I have so many post ideas floating around in my head and in my notebooks and I'm so excited to share it all. {Plus I might have a few new tricks up my sleeve...}

I also recently got this cutie camera that I've been playing around with. My mind is a creative mess right now with all the possibilities.......
{Now spinning: Mondern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend}
Rad records are really all I need to make a Monday better. {Plus some lipstick of course}

And you can't forget the gold watch. Must have.

P.S. Yes, that is a nickel on my record player. It weighs it down so the records don't skip! #oldschooltips

I'm still obsessed with burning this Sonoma candle. In fact, it's coming to the point of burning it down to its last hurrah. Don't go. :(

Aren't these earrings the cutest?

My sweet aunt got me a lotion by Brompton & Langley for V-Day and it literally smells like the best summer cocktail. Where you at, summertime?

{Blog planner by Heart and Arrow Design}
When I don't have a record spinning or I'm not aggressively jamming singing to 1989 in my Jeep, spotify is where it's at. Finding new music gets me in the best mood.

I've been digging Boardwalks by Little May and Haim's album Days Are Gone, among others. So good.

Yoga is kind of the best. Get a mat and go, and thank me later.

Spill all your musings + latest inspo with me!

 A good graphic tee should definitely be a wardrobe staple. It's so versatile and can make a bold statement while keeping everything else simple.

My favorite way to give it a lil POP?

A statement necklace and a red lip.

You just can't go wrong.

Do you love graphic tees? How to you style them? Do tell.

Tips for living life on your own terms

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Remember that episode of Friends when the girls came across that book entitled Be Your Own Windkeeper? In my opinion, that's what we should all be doing. Keeping our own wind. Okay, maybe I should put it in a way that doesn't sound so..... '90s. Living life on your own terms. Yeah. There we go.

So many times I think the idea of having someone come save you and make everything better is a little too romanticized. Don't get me wrong, surrounding yourself with people who care about you is important, but baby, you're your own hero. It's just as important to live your life the way that you want and to make it better. Create some magic.

// Set intentions.
In yoga, it helps to create an intention of why you're on the mat. It can be anything that keeps you on the mat through the tough poses and sweat. We should set intentions for all aspects of life as well. It creates motivation and if you have an intention, you have an endgame. From there you can figure out how to get to the endgame.

// Don't take BS.
This has been hard for me over the years. I'm shy. I hate confrontation. I'm a people pleaser. That combination has led to me letting people take advantage of me too many times. Don't do that to yourself. If someone is giving you BS, call them out. ASAP.

//Cut out the toxic people.
This kind of goes along with the BS thing, but it is so important to only have positive people in your life who support you. Don't ever feel bad for letting go of someone who is toxic to your mental health or your thinking. Take control of who you keep in your life.

//Let go.
Never let someone tell you how to live your life. You are the only one who gets to choose your beliefs, your friends, your fashion sense, your music preferences, your way of living.  Learn to be happy in that. Everything is so much easier and more beautiful when you live the way you want to and when you learn to be the hero of your own story.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! So, last night's PLL was a big ole' episode of crazy.

+ First things first, watching Spencer and Toby's relationship spiral is pretty much the saddest thing ever. They've been there at each other's best and worst and it's all going down because Toby cares more about his job than his girlfriend. Like, I get it, you wanna be a good cop, but don't treat your girlfriend and her friends like crap in the process. We were rooting for you, Toby. Ugh. #madaboutit

+ This whole "Taila's husband" thing is just so weird and it seems like her story is different from his.... apparently Emily thought it was fishy too. She got outta that one....

+ I was more than a little freaked when we found out Mike had Mona's blood. I was like, okay this is not Aria's mysterious younger brother from season one.

+ I was starting to think that A "signed" Kate up for the beauty pageant and looks like I had the right idea. I hate A.

+ OMG so. many. revelations. When Mona's death first happened part of me thought maybe it was just one of her elaborate plans that she always dreamed up. And it was. A had her convinced they could "expose" Alison and Mona would be free of her. She had it all worked out and it just went horribly wrong. Did I mention I hate A?

+ Aaand by the end of the episode I was back to feeling sorry for Mike. So that's where I'm at.

All the blogs

Monday, February 16, 2015

I love blogs. I mean, what kind of blogger would I be if I didn't? Reading other blogs is a part of my daily routine, and finding ones that just get me is super important.

So, I've managed to compile a list of all my top, can't miss, must-read blogs because you should be reading them too, and because I love sharing the love. {Saturday was Valentine's Day, after all}

My blogroll...

// The Skinny Confidential: This one goes first because it's like, the lifestyle blog. Lauryn has created something incredible that really is a lifestyle of its own. I find myself on TSC time and time again for inspiration and good health tips, because girl knows what she's talking about.

// Venus Trapped In Mars: If you like sports and have a sense of humor, you'll love VTIM. Sarah's humor never fails and her blogging tips are on point. Also, she's Dallas based and I looove reading local blogs. Basically I'm always obsessing over VTIM for one reason or another.

// A Walk in the Park: Carly's style is incredible and AWITP is filled with pretty pinterest-worthy photos that will make you oooh and aaah. I'm obsessed. #canwebefriends?

// Helene In Between: Helene's another Dallas blogger who I go to for new music recommendations, fun Buzzfeed-esque posts, and blogging tips.

// The Girl Who Loved to Write: Chelsea's honest, optimistic view of life is inspiring and TGWLTW is full of writing tips and inspiration, and a cutie pup. What more could you want?

// But First, Coffee: I obviously first gravitated to Kallie's blog because of the name and I stayed for the rad beauty tips she has.

To be honest there a quite a few other blogs I read a lot, but if I listed them all it would take forever. So do yourself a favor and check out all the blogs I follow on bloglovin. And then visit them and fall in love!

What's on your blogroll? Did any of them make my list?

Venus Trapped in Mars
Instead of stressing over not having a valentine, {lol} I've spent some time thinking about who/ what could be my valentine if it were possible.

And then I took a good hard look at my life.

1// Pizza. You're always there, man. You never let me down. Thanks for that. #BeMine?

2// Starbucks. Or any coffee, really. You're my right hand man, the one that keeps the blood flowin. I really just have a lot of love for you. #BeMine?

3// Anyone in the history of ever who has called me cute. Shoutout to you. #BeMine?

4// Target. Keep doin' you. Keep making my bank account cry. It loves it, trust me. I love you, too. #BeMine?

5// Rimmel Kate Moss 107 lipstick. Thank you, you little magical tube of color. #BeMine?

6// Justin Timberlake. Listen. I know you got your girl and I respect that. But please. Just on the 14th.... #BeMine?

If you could pick aaanything to be your valentine, what would it be? Tell, tell!

*Today I'm linking up with the lovely Helene and Sarah. {And thanks for the post inspiration}

Easy nail polish storage

Thursday, February 12, 2015

I'm forever adding nail polishes to my collection, which means that said collection can get less-than-organized pretty easily.

Up until recently I kept all my polishes haphazardly in a drawer, and before that everything was crammed into a cosmetics bag that was waaay too small.

Luckily, for Christmas I got a Caboodles bag that was perfect for all my polishes. It's spacious and I even ended up having room left over for the inevitable new bottles.
I also wanted to make it easier to see the colors, so I did this cool lil trick I found on pinterest awhile back.

All you need is a toothpick. That's it. Dip a swab of color to put on the lid, let it dry, and voila.
If you wanna get really fancy with it, you can even organize it all by color. I, however, decided to keep with the "throw it all in" trend. Whatev.

And there ya go! A super simple way to keep all those polishes in check.

Thoughts on last night's PLL:

+ I'm still trying to warm up to Jonny. I don't know his angle and I don't like that.

+ Okay so I hadn't realized how much Talia reminds me of Maya. Her and Emily's date also seemed eerily similar to Emily's and Maya's.... just throwing that out there.

+ Speaking of Talia, I was way off on what her sketchiness was. I thought she was like, working for A or something. Didn't see her being married coming.

+ And on that note, I think Emily's storylines have so much potential other than just "who she's dating now."

+ MIKE. What is happening? Why is he helping Cyrus or whatever name he's using now? What's up with the blood? So. Many. Questions.

+ I reeeally don't like Hanna's dad.

What did you love/ hate about this week's episode? Tell, tell!

The writer's block has been real lately and I was searching for inspiration when I got the genius idea to write about writer's/blogger's/whatever's block.

So meta. Or something.

I've thought of eight ways to fight that pesky block and get back on track. Trust me on this, because I'm such an expert.

1// Waste like five hours of your day on tumblr. Reblog all the things and then look back on your choices. At least two blog posts can come from that, easy.

2// Stalk your favorite blogs and wonder how they make it look so simple. I know you know what I'm talking about.

3// Eat pop-tarts. Don't ask. Just do.

4// Think about all the people who are younger than you and way more successful. {I'm lookin at you, miss Lorde} Kinda makes you wanna write the next great American novel so you can show them up, doesn't it? You're welcome.

5// Read 365 Blog Topic Ideas. All the ideas in one place.

6// Imagine what life would be like as a pretty little liar. How would you get rid of A? What outfits would you wear while doing so? Ooooh, interesting. Boom. Blog post.

7// Go shopping. Again, don't ask questions, grasshopper. Just do. Kaeleen says.

8//  Step away. Write when inspiration finds you, or you find it. It always seems better that way.

Tell me how you fight writers block!

On finding yourself.

Thursday, February 5, 2015

If present day me had told high school me that I would end up taking a {very long} break from college and move back home on some sort of journey of self discovery, high school me would've laughed. She would've rolled her eyes and said firmly, "No. I'm graduating in four years. That's that."

The thing is, not everything works out the way you plan. Life happens and sometimes you end up losing yourself along the way. What happens then? When you can't remember the person you used to be but you want so desperately to go back to that person? You have to start over in a way, and the thought can be overwhelming.

I think it's all about becoming free. Finding yourself is kind of an art, just like a lot of things in life. There's a line in the chorus of the song "New Romantics" by Taylor Swift that says "The best people in life are free," and I saw a tumblr post {If I could find it again I'd link it} talking about how this person thinks maybe the line means that the best people are those who are confident and good and who have been able to find themselves. And because of that, they are free. I can't be sure what Taylor was thinking when she wrote that line- this could totally be like in english class when the teacher is sure a line about apples is all metaphorical when really the author just wanted to write about apples. I don't know. But I like the idea of setting yourself free by finding who you are.
{via Emma}
Falling in love with your life is a slow, long process, but it seems like once you get there you seem to just radiate happiness and confidence and none of the little stuff matters anymore. I think that I'm finding myself little by little each day, in the things that bring me joy and light and laughter. What things bring that for you? Do them. Do them everyday, even if you don't feel like it.

Fake it. Surround yourself with only good people. Say yes more. Soon you'll start to see glimpses of the person you used to be.

I believe that when you've truly found yourself, you become both who you once were and someone totally new. That's the most beautiful part.

How do you find yourself?

Previously on Pretty Little liars... Oh, What Hard Luck Stories They all Hand Me

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

The past couple of episodes of PLL have left a little to be desired {don't get me wrong, I loved every minute} but last night made up for it.

+ Ms. Hastings is here! Guess not all the parents disappeared into a void....

+ I don't trust Jonny. It's like he just appeared, he seems a bit shady, and I don't like that Spencer is opening up to him. Why do they have to bring in some random guy to mess with a perfectly good couple?

+ Flashbacks are always so interesting, especially Mona flashbacks.

+ We learned some iffy things about Mike and I'm not amused. It leaves so many questions.... why is he visiting Ali? Is he working with her? Is he somehow connected to Mona's death? If the answer to that last one is yes, I will refuse to accept it.

+ "Or else it's simple and we just thought that it was complicated." I feel like Spencer just summarized the whole show in that one sentence.

+ Aaaand we finally hear Bethany's voice. Creepy. Who was she talking about??

+ Holbrook is too much for me.

What are your thoughts on last night's episode?
