So long, 2013.

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

I don't know about you, but I for one am glad this year is coming to an end. 2013 has not been my favorite. Don't get me wrong, there were some good things that happened, and all the less-than-fabulous came with lessons learned. (The good things, too!)

I learned...... that loss is a part of life. It's heartbreaking, and painful, but God is holding your hand the whole way through.

I learned...... that with practice, crafts can become pinterest worthy.

I learned...... that Taylor Swift is the best friend I've never met. (Well, I learned that seven years ago, but still)

I learned...... that life is fragile, and it can be taken away in the blink of an eye.

I learned....... that it's okay to ask for help.

I learned...... that I'm useless without my morning coffee.

I learned...... that good friends are one of life's greatest blessings.

I learned...... that there's nothing a little Gilmore Girls can't fix.

I learned...... that doing things for other people is a wonderful feeling.

I learned...... that a little lipstick can make you feel like you can conquer the world.

With all of this in mind, I'm personally beyond ready to bring in 2014. After all, it's a chance to start over. It's also the year I'll say goodbye to teenagehood and begin a whole new chapter of my life- my twenties. That thought is exciting, terrifying, and hopeful all at the same time.
This is a time for new beginnings. So I am putting 2013 in a box and throwing it into the Rio Grande. (Well, metaphorically anyway) Here's to this year. Be strong. Be fearless. Be happy. Be brave.

Staying strong

Monday, December 30, 2013

One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year (besides my beautiful record player) was Demi Lovato's new book. It's called Staying Strong, and there are encouraging words and a goal for each day of the year.

It is one of my goals for 2014 to read this book every day, and maybe even share some of the things here. Demi has also inspired me to write my own words down on paper so that I can inspire others.

If you are struggling with anything or just need some encouragement, I highly recommend this book. (I mean I haven't started it yet, but let's be real. I'm a little biased)

Make this the year for change. Be brave. And stay strong.

xoxo, Kae.

High Five For Friday: Christmas edition

Friday, December 27, 2013

Well, it's Friday once again! Another Christmas has come and gone. I hope you had a wonderful day. Now it's time for New Year's! Tomorrow I leave for Florida to visit my Grandmom and uncle, so things might be a little quiet around these parts. But have no fear.
Now for some Christmas highlights.

1. It's a tradition that I watch The One With The Routine on Christmas Eve.

2. Cinnamon rolls every Christmas morning. And coffee.

3. I got this beautiful record player. My soul is happy.

4. I learned that this awesome little head piece thing is called a turban. Not just a headband. Who knew?

5. By now, it's just inevitable that I get something T. Swift related each year. And I love it.

xoxo, Kae.

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

If you don't know what movie the title references, we can't be friends. Just kidding. But really.

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day today. I hope you are wrapped in the peace of Jesus' love and surrounded by lovely people.

Merry Christmas.

xoxo, Kae.

Manicure Monday: White and sparkles

Monday, December 23, 2013

Happy Christmas Eve eve! (Yeah, I'm totally making that a thing) Do you stress over the perfect nail color for Christmas day, or is that just me?
Well, either way, if you need some last minute nail inspiration, here's a little for you.
Excuse the polish-on-side-of-nail

Glitter: Sinful Colors in Hot Wired

High Five For Friday

Friday, December 20, 2013

IT'S FRIDAY!! And there's five days until Christmas.

1. Now that I'm back home for Christmas, and knowing that I won't be back at school next semester, I'm overwhelmed with all the free time I have. There's so many options of what to do! I like that I'll have more time to write.

2. Speaking of free time, this is a perfect way to spend it.

3. Pretty tree.

4. There wasn't a new Coven this week, but I watched last week's because I missed it. And all I can say is.... QUEENIE!

5. And finally, since there's five more days, I give you this gem. Yes, I jam to this every 20th. Don't judge.

xoxo, Kae.

It's the little things

Saturday, December 14, 2013

I know I don't normally post on Saturday, but let's just let this make up for my lack of H54F this week. (Yeah, sorry 'bout that....)
Anyway, I have a little confession. Sometimes I stalk myself on social media. Like, I'll look at my twitter and read through my tweets. Or, I'll look at all my photos on instagram.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this.

So, I was insta-stalking myself when I came across this photo.

It was uploaded over a year ago, (I don't even make my r's like that anymore) on a day that I must've been feeling inspired. Funny thing is, even though another year has come and nearly gone, nothing about this photo has changed. Everything on this list still makes me happy.

Friends is still my comfort show. (Well, and Gilmore Girls)
I'm still in love with fall and Christmastime. (11 days til Christmas!!)
A good book is still one of my favorite things in the world.
Rainy days still make me smile.
I still can't get enough of those mocha frapuccinos.
Even if I don't believe it most times, someone calling me pretty can still make my day.
Fireworks still give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Summertime still makes me mellow and happy.
I still smile at the thought of cuddling, even if it's with an animal.
I still think puppies are some of the best little furry creatures God put in the world.
And country music can still take me to another time and place.

I guess my point is, things can change and life happens, and sometimes it gets in the way of the bigger picture. But the picture is still there. It might take a little digging, but it's there. Don't forget about it. Feel joy from the simple things.
Remember to be happy, even if it's only for a moment.
After all, it's the little things that matter most.

xoxo, Kae.

Some words for your Thursday.

Thursday, December 12, 2013

This week is nearly over, and I for one, am glad. It's been particularly stressful (finals....) and just not the greatest as far as weeks go.
Sometimes we get so wrapped up into what we're struggling with and we feel like we're the only ones in the world trying to keep it together. But we're not. All of us are struggling, together.

If you're stressing about school or work, you're not alone.
If you struggle to get out of bed in the mornings and make it through the day, you're not alone.
If you look into the mirror and hate the reflection staring back at you, you're not alone.
If you are going through any struggle or challenge in your life, no matter how large or small, you are not alone.

It's okay to not be okay. It's okay to feel.

xoxo, Kae.

OOTD: Layer up

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Today things are finally feeling back to normal after the great icepocalypse of 2013 (not real snow because it's Texas.) It's still just a wee bit cold out though,  so I took advantage of layering opportunities.

Adding a jacket to complete the look is an option as well. Plus, you know, it's cold.

Jacket: Dots
Sweater: rue21
Cardigan: Target

My favorite Christmas movies

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Just two weeks (and a day) left til Christmas! What better way to count down the days than with some fun Christmas movies? Cozying up in a warm blanket with some hot chocolate... yeah that sounds pretty good right about now.

1. Let's start the list off with a no brainer, shall we? I don't think this one even needs an explanation.

2. "Buddy the elf, what's your favorite color?"

3. This one is a shoutout to all the fellow '90s kids out there. I was obsessed with this movie as a tiny one.

4. What's Christmas without It's A Wonderful Life?

5. And finally, I remember watching this with my mom like every year as a kid. It's kind of precious.

Happy watching!

High Five For Friday

Friday, December 6, 2013

It's Friday!! It's also the start of finals week. Ugh. At least it's Friday.

1. So, I'm about ten years behind on this, but I started reading Harry Potter. Yeah, I've never read Harry Potter before. Gasp, right? I have seen all the movies (even though it was recently...) and I adore them. I remember being at my childhood best friend's house and she was telling me all about it because it was when the first movie was coming out and I was like "that sounds cool!" But to my little eyes the books just looked so big and I was just like "eh, maybe one day." Well folks, that one day has come.

2. EVERY DAY IS ONE DAY CLOSER TO CHRISTMAS.  I'm not excited or anything...

3. Also, less than a week until I'm home. Just gotta make it through these finals.  #letsgo

4. It's winter weather again. I like it. I do wish we'd get a proper snow, but I'm not counting on it. This is Texas, after all.

5. And finally, this is my life right now. Humor is the best coping method.

Happy Friday y'all.

Handwrite it

Thursday, December 5, 2013

In the world of social media and texting, communicating with people can be so simple. But is it always for the better? When was the last time you got a handwritten letter or simple note instead of a text or a twitter mention?
I've recently gotten inspired to start writing little letters to the people in my life more often. It's something I've done every so often before, but I want to make a habit of it. Sometimes people need to hear that they are loved and appreciated, and letters are a great way of spreading positivity and love. And as good as receiving them feels, writing letters for people are so good and healing for the soul. The idea of handwritten letters is beautiful and in today's world, even more special. Write to those you love, or even strangers. Positivity is contagious.

Woman Crush Wednesday: Jennifer Lawrence

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Would you kill me if I said I've never seen The Hunger Games?  Okay, maybe I should rephrase that. I've seen like half an hour of the first one, but I never finished it, and I've yet to read the books. That being said, I still love me some Jennifer Lawrence.
Other being being a fabulous actress, (Silver Linings Playbook, anyone?) she is a genuinely good person.
The quote on the photo above is just one of the many reasons I love her. She has said repeatedly that she refuses to lose weight for a role, and I admire her so very much for that. She has also managed to stay real. When I look at her, I don't see a famous person. I see a girl I could eat pizza with, talk about boys with, and laugh with. Sometimes I wish I could hang out with her and have a genuine conversation with her.
I think that if more people in Hollywood were like her, it would be a much better place.

Pinspiration: DIY Mug

Monday, December 2, 2013

Well folks, the holiday season is upon us. I wonder how many variations of that sentence I'll say between now and Christmas Day. Probably a lot. I love making homemade gifts for people because it's fun and (when they turn out right) I think people genuinely enjoy them. So this year I've been scouring Pinterest, like always, trying to find ideas that on my level of creating. (Let's just say I'm no Martha Stewart.) One project I've heard so much about in the past is the good old Sharpie mug. I had been intending to try it for awhile, but it just never happened.
So I finally thought, why not? I knew it was probably a good idea to try out a test mug for myself before buying a ton. (Because let's face it, everyone would be getting one.) The pin that I got my inspiration from was this one.
DIY Sharpie mug

I decided to go ahead and do it all in black Sharpie so I wouldn't have to worry about the color fading. I figured a regular Sharpie would work just fine, but just to be safe I bought one made to write on glass. It was $6 at Hobby Lobby! And this is a Dollar Tree mug. Since I made this one for myself, I decided to put a Taylor Swift lyric on it. (I know, big surprise.)

After I got the mug decorated the way I wanted it, I put it on a cookie sheet and popped it into the oven on 350 degrees for thirty minutes.
Foil optional

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome! Even though most of the pins I had read had been successful, I was still a bit skeptical since I had yet to do it myself. But it came out well, and I even (hand!) washed it to make sure the writing would stay.
I think this is such a fun gift because you can personalize it to fit whoever you're giving it to, and it's super quick. Who doesn't love that?
